Star Wars on DVD

Quite pre-stimulated by this. I mean, when the remastered vids came out in '94, I was enthused and dug it. I wasn't so hot on Greedo firing first in '97, but there you go. I wasn't alone, so that's Ok. However, I understand that this will be the definitive version for us 30 something lads, so once again, excited. I know the thing back to front and have an almost ridiculous amount of knowledge on the subject. So what? Looking forward. Sydney, your elf is a knob jockey. So there. I've had a few pints. Such a child.

Re: Star Wars on DVD

Well they're changing it even more, just so you know. They're replacing Obi-Wan's ghost with the young Anakin (Haydin or whatever his name is) and they're changing old Anakin's face in ROTJ so it looks more like the teenage one. And they're redoing Boba Fett's voice, and they're redoing a bunch of the puppets so they're CGI! I saw the pictures with my very own eyes, and those eyes weeped for those who will be suckered into seeing this abomination.

Re: Star Wars on DVD

are you serious?? I had heard rumors that Lucas was losing his mind and wanted to go back and make EVERYTHING cgi, but i had hoped some sensible people around there would talk him out of it. If they changed the whole musical scene with the puppets i'll be pissed!

Re: Star Wars on DVD

wait. I'm not a big star wars fan but i believe in Purity. are you serious about all of that doctor how? I mean lets put it this way, what if dave, roger, nick or rick decided to go back to any album and "fix" things, say on darkside. it would be sacriligious. thats what i think about star wars. its sacriligious. if your a star trek fan and know this little quip, it would be like going back to the orginal series and altering the film to give the Klingons ridged foreheads. YOUD DONT DO IT!

Re: Star Wars on DVD

from a rather prominent fan site:

List of Trilogy DVD Changes
Tue, Sep 14, 04 03:46:40 AM EDT

Gilless tells us that the Sept'04 issue of the french magazine "Les Années Laser - Le Magazine du DVD et du Home Cinema" has published a short but very informative review of the upcoming classic Star Wars DVD set, including a detailled description of the few modifications introduced by Lucasfilm. Here you go!
A New Hope:
- 24'51" : twin sun effect has been renewed.

- 48'50" : Han Solo avoids Greedo's shot before shooting at him.

- 50'30" : Jabba effect renewed completely, in accordance with Episode 1. (still looks like a PS2 game character)

- 71'30" and after : Death Star jail corridor is much deeper. (who cares?)

- 77' : the garbage monster has been improved. (the puppet looks better)

- 82'10" : "Power" and "Tractor Beam" stencils have been replaced with Star Wars "foreign" signs. (yippity doo dah!)

Empire Strikes Back:
- 50'56" to 52'05" : Emperor's hologram has been reshot with Ian Mc Dairmid. A new dialog has been recorded and Palpatine informs Vader about Luke's real identity! (just disgusting!)

- 63'42", 87'18" & 98'39" : Boba Fett's dialog has been re-recorded by Temuera Morrison.

- 92'05" & 92"15 : Han Solo's black jacket has been erased, due to cut mistakes in the original movie.

- 101'40" : Luke's scream, which was added in the '97 Special Edition, has been removed again.

Return Of The Jedi:
- 24'44" and after : Edge transparency defects around the Rancor have been removed. (well, that's OK...)

- 115'41" : Old Anakin's eyebrows have been erased and eyes are now blue, to fit with Hayden Christensen. (now that's just sick!)

- 120'44" : Naboo has been added to Tatooine, Bespin, Coruscant and Endor victory celebration scenes.

- 120'58" & 121'03" : Senate & Jedi temple are now included in Coruscant panoramic view.

- 122'30" : As everyone knows already, Hayden appears as a ghost beside Yoda and old Obi-Wan at the end of the movie.
(NOOOOOOOOOOO!)

Re: Star Wars on DVD

Greedo never shot first. Jabba looked horrible as CGI. Empire biggest moment was when you found out that Luke was Vader's son. Puppets rock, CGI sucks.

Some good things...

Expanded cities.. very nice. Ummm.... Thats all folks.

I just wish Lucas would rerelease the originals on DVD as they were. The videotape from 94 won't last much longer.

PS: Not that I intend on buying it, but its already released here.

Re: Star Wars on DVD

I hate George Lucas.

There should be a law against prostituting movies. More make up and fishnet pantyhose won't make the movies more atractive.

Re: Star Wars on DVD

Myself being one of those 30-something Fixxy was speaking about, well, I can't wait. That's the moment I was waiting for when I bought my DVD player and I have no problems with Lucas updating his own creation so yes, 'excited' is the word.

I can't believe what that bloated shit bag is doing to his movies. I figure maybe I'll get them sooner or later, but I'm in no hurry.

Re: Star Wars on DVD

I haven't checked out SW's since Return came out. I remember Lucas had an interview on TV in '77. He said when all the movies are done, he gave a year '05 or '06, he would have the 9 book trilogy put into print and it will not be changed and will be the be all to end all of SW's. What the F*** happened to that notion? i wanted ( in '77) to buy those in '05 or whenever they became available. For the 40 something's I would think they would feel the same as I do, F*** him. I just found 20 books by other author's online, I say again WHAT THE F*** !! Where's my god damn 9 books the movies were supposedly based on (maybe Lucas was just lying to us) !!

Re: Star Wars on DVD

It's great the trilogy is released on dvd but those changes are so ****ing pointless. The add of Hayden Christensen upsets me the most never liked him.
