I'm 42! its time to play Floyd!

G'Day from down under (Australia!)

My name is Steve and being a youngster in the 60's and a teen in the 70's I always loved Floyd!

Anyways, I have finally got time in my life to start learning some of those fantastic guitar solos etc.

I'm learning 'coming back to life' at the moment.

Anybody know what guitar effect is switched on during in the first solo? is it MUFF?

Thanks

Steve

You should talk about guitar solos in the Jam Room

Re: I'm 42! its time to play Floyd!

Welcome Stevie...glad you've joined us. Please take a moment ro read the forum rules adn guidelines and then sit back and enjoy yourself. We have a great search function that will find many of the answers you may have questions for.

There is a forum called Jam Room where all the music related stuff goes on and I'm sure you'll find a great deal of info there on Floyd related effects and whatnot.

Just for sake of efficiency and a welcome gift... yes , Dave uses his Big Muff on the initial solo.

Have fun here and I look forward to your contributions.

StevieC!

Welcome!

You being in your 40's allows you to join a select few of us on the board...the so called 'Unholy Trinity of Elders' - although our number are well into double digits.

Have a great time here, and don't let the young 'uns drive you away!

What a nice friendly bunch you are! Yeh, I'm proud to be 40, it means I was a teen in the 70's!

My teen kids are now saying they wish they grew in the 70's! They say Dad you were so lucky!
How about that.

Sometimes I feel rather smug about this, and not too proud but.....

About a year ago my daughter (then 12) had a bunch of her friends over one day and one of them noticed my guitar.. My daughter informed them that I play "With a group of guys his age"... They all laughed.. giggled and snickered..

I said nothing, got up, picked up my strat, plugged in, turned the amp on.. and RIPPED through the closing solo to Comfy Numb.....

They were stunned for at least five minutes... My daughter just beamed.....Now I'm fameous at Crescent View Middle School..

Practice, practice, practice..... play for a hour a day.. get your scales and modes down cold.. find a good tab of what you want to play and work through it slowly.... then bring it up to speed as your fingers remember where to go. It'll come quicker than you may think.. just play everyday... also.. don't try to "sound just like Dave".. give it your own personal touch..

Re: I'm 42! its time to play Floyd!

Thanks for the advice Fulghum, I shall aim at least 1.5 hrs a day.

I've been working on my scales and trying to memorise every note on neck. I've done the "E" string notes, A is next!

What do mean by modes? do you mean hammer ons, bends etc?

Also Ive just got an american Big muff (Electro -harmonix) and Roland GT-6 any tips on using these devices?

Steve
