Re: Saddest Song

I'd go with Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton...after reading what the lyrics were about, this song has always made me feel sad after I heard it. [/B][/QUOTE]

i would have to agree...that song is very depressing

Sigur Ros stuff can be quite inspiring and uplifting I find.. sure there's some stuff that's heaps sad sounding. But there's a lot of hope there too.

Me and a Gun by Tori Amos breaks my heart

5 am Friday morning
Thursday night far from sleep
I'm still up and driving
Can't go home obviously
So I'll just change direction cause they'll soon know where I live
And I want to live

Got a full tank and some chips
It was me and a gun and a man on my back
And I sang "holy holy" as he buttoned down his pants
You can laugh, it's kind of funny
The things you think in times like these
Like I haven't seen Barbados so I must get out of this

Yes I wore a slinky red thing
Does that mean I should spread
For you, your friends, your father, Mr Ed
Was Me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen Barbados so I must get out of this

And I know what this means
Me and Jesus, a few years back, used to hang
And he said, "It's your choice babe, just remember
I don't think you'll be back in 3 days' time,
So you choose well"
Tell me what's right, is it my right
To be on my stomach
Of Fred's Seville
It's me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen Barbados so I must get out of this

And do you know Carolina, where the biscuits are soft and sweet
These things go through your head
When there's a man on your back
You're pushed flat on your stomach, it's not a classic Cadillac
Me and a gun and a man on my back
But I haven't seen Barbados so I must get out of this
I haven't seen Barbados so I must get out of this

You And Your Friend - Dire Straits
Ballads and blues (entire album) - Gary Moore
A lot of stuff from OK Computer
#1 Crush - Garbage
The End Is The Begining Is The End - Smashing Pumpkins
Spies - Coldplay
In A Lonely Place - Joy Division
A lot of stuff by the Doors
When The Smoke Is Going Down and Holiday - Scorpions. (I alos like their cover of Dust In The Wind. Their "Hot and slow - best of the ballads (1991) was a pretty sad song filled album too)
Marooned and Wearing The Inside Out - Pink Floyd
Daffodil Lament and yeat's Grave - The Cranberries
Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin

Some more stuff.... I can't think of just yet.

The Bette Midler version in the movie 'For the Boys' is very sweet.

Nothing really comes to mind that hasn't already been said, but I just heard "Gravedigger" by Dave Mathews Band on the radio, if that counts. It's sad.
