Question about the In The Flesh dvd

This may be a stupid question, but during the song "Dog's" , Roger and some of the others just start playing cards, are they just killing time? lol Also did Roger do this back in the 70's on the Pink Floyd Animals Tour?

I would think it would be killing time, since their is no bass guitar during that part where they just repeat "stone, stone, stone, stone, stone..."

Thanks for the reply and very true about there being no bass guitar during that part.

Also, yes they were drinking some sort of alcohol when they were playing.

I just thought it was a sly reference to this famous painting.

The metaphor (irony, satire) is lost on this one.

The painting itself features cheating dogs, trying to get ahead of the game. Notice the white dog in the front, with the ace hidden under the table. Given the name and nature of the song, and the men playing cards in concert, it just may be a nod to those paintings.

This was something they started on the '99 tour if I'm not mistaken. A stagehand serves cocktails to the backup singers, who relax on a couch and watch the guitarists drink whiskey and play cards. Yes, it's a nod to the painting. I love how on the DVD you can hear Roger and Andy clink glasses before Jon's synth solo starts.

Apparently on the 2002 tour the stagehand came out dressed in a very silly cocktail waiter's costume to the amusement of the performers and audience.

You can also see Andy shuffling the cards when he's not doing anything during SOYCD.

I was referring to the original asker of the question. I know what the joke is.

If you watch the "gearing up" section on the DVD, you see them playing the game "Trumps", a game that can be played with a winner quickly in a couple of minutes, so I think that's what they're doing.
