Division Bell question.

I have a question about the album cover to The Division Bell. What is that design supposed to symbolize? Sorry if this question may be stupid, i'm just curious about the cover.

Re: Division Bell question.

The whole album is about communication, and the two heads are speaking: the lights (or the flags) symbolize talking. Basically that's what the cover is about, there is also a visual trick: you can see one head or two heads actually... and there is a little more symbology here and there. If you are into Floyd covers and artwork you should really buy Storm Thorgerson's book Mind Over Matter... now!

Thanks! I should pick up that book. I'm very much into the Floyd covers and seeing what they're about.

Re: Division Bell question.

Is there such a word as 'symbology'?

No. It was a perfectly valid question which he genuinely wanted to be answered.

Re: Division Bell question.

Yeah if you don't know something you ask we all gotta start somewhere especially when the only real scource for an answer would be Mr Thorgerson's fantastic Mind Over Matter.

Re: Division Bell question.

I don't have the CD art in front of me but seems I recall one picture shows a church way in the background between the two (or one divided) face. Since the title is "Division Bell" maybe they are implying that religion causes division? Surely not.... (sarcasm)

Re: Division Bell question.

Re: Division Bell question.

You know, I spent about a year listening to that album, puzzling over the artwork, analyzing the lyrics, etc.

And you know what? There's no real concept there. It's just a daft collection of songs put together in such a way as to suggest some semblance of creativity and/or intrigue. Compare it with Dark Side, on which I'm sure I could write a 900-page thesis dissertation, and what do you have? Some half-baked messages about not talking and a dumb video with oversized ping-pong balls.

Seriously man, what you need to do is write a book and start selling it on Amazon -- make a little cash.
