The lunatic is in the hall

the paper holds their folded faces to the floor
and every day the paper boy brings more

Those four lines say so much about politics, the media, popular culture, etc. Just brilliant.
I agree. I mean, really, is there a better lyric writer than Roger? In my opinion there is not. However, I think that without Dave's input with the music, Roger's solo efforts have been lacking a little musically. I love all of Roger's solo works, but I like AMLOR and TDB better than Roger's solo works.

Well, of course this is your opinion. In my opinion he is one of the best lyricists out there but there are also some other wonderful writers such as Peter Hammill, Lou Reed or Peter Gabriel to name just a few.

Well, atleast Nick Mason has said in his book "inside-Out" that the success of DSOTM was due to the brilliant song writing. Why do we always have to categories?Of course there are a few good lyricists out there and each has his/her own style.

Cool Re: Polly Samson's Role on TDB: Pink FRAUD?

This topic has been very entertaining. I burst out laughing when I read all of the "sticking his oar" comments. But I still have 1 question. What does "BDG" stand for?

I cant only think of one guy who has that incredible gift for song writing that Rog has and that would be Bob Dylan, his stuff is mind blowing.

Bob Dylan might have good lyrics, but I don't think that the music is so brilliant. You don't have do be a genius to come up with a 4-chord song.

Re: Polly Samson's Role on TDB: Pink FRAUD?

...but not really...I was listening to lyrics a friend has written for his original tunes he records...we discussed how darn difficult after 30+ years of some incredible songwriting by PF, Beatles, Dylan...you get the idea...difficult to put pen to paper and come up with something unique that says what you want to say in a way that it's never been said before...not an easy task. As far as Pink Floyd goes, I think all the band agrees that post Syd, they "played to their strengths"...Roger had things to say and did it wonderfully...as musicians, what they heard in their heads fit Roger's words...be it two cords, four cords, an even dozen...no matter. It worked and worked very well.
