Guitar for kids

I am thinking of getting my 7 year-old a guitar for christmas
this year. would it be better to get one of the scaded down models or get the full size one and let him learn on it. I am
not sure which would be better and was hoping someone here
could help.

THANKS

Re: Guitar for kids

I would reccomend a guitar with a smaller scale length. Seeing as how they will spend the first year getting down the basics of chord fingerings and scales, they will be more inclined to practice and improve if it's comfortable and fun for them.

Daisy Rock is making some nice guitars with smaller scale lengths for smaller hands, they're worth a look. Gibson/Epiphone has some nice ones as well.

Re: Guitar for kids

I started playing when i was 8 and had a scaled down model for a year or two before i got my american strat. I think its probably better to start with the smaller one, especially for the small fingers.
