I Love The 00's?

Today I was watching Vh1's re-broadcasting of I Love The 90's.

If you're not familiar, Vh1 has a series of shows in which (sub)celebrities remnisce about the fashions, movies, tv shows, music, and politics of select decades.

Most of the subject matter is predictable. Most decades have their definitive moments that everybody associates with that decade. What about this one? I mean sure, we've got Bush, Myspace, and "emo", but this decade seems really boring and neutral to me.

Can you think of anything going on now that will someday be fodder for money hungry bullshit television networks?

We need to wait a while because eventually all trends change, and what is normal now will be laughed at probably in 20 years

I dont see anything funny about the 60's/70's. I mean, we had tie dye T shirts, afghan coats, crushed velvet flairs, hair down our backs, wore love beads and doused ourselves in patchouli oil and musk, we used phrases like 'far out man' whilst laughing at the antics of Cheech and Chong. Nothing funny there!

Re: I Love The 00's?

This reminds me of that scene in "Dazed And Confused" (that takes place in the 70's) where the girl says something like:
"Coolness skips a generation, the 60's were awesome, the 70's obviously suck, so the 80's will probably be awesome!"
Everyone seems to think their time is dull.

Re: I Love The 00's?

DVD's, mp3s... these things will be ludicrously archaic in ten years' time.

Re: I Love The 00's?

I predict that in 20 years tattoos will be taboo.

And girls running around with levis that barely cover their privates will be laughed at.

Rap music will be scorned, along with the stupid baggy pants.

Re: I Love The 00's?

Tattoos are already taboo in some places. But in other places, they've been the norm for thousands of years. The practice is not going anywhere, trust me.

About the rappers with baggy pants - I predict hip-hop will either self-destruct or re-invent itself within the next two years.

Of course that's an easy prediction, since hip-hop has always been like that and music in general has done that consistently fo the past 80 years or so.

At one time hip hop had a lot of promise. I just can't buy Jamie Foxx as a serious artist.

Re: I Love The 00's?

Why hasn't country music been ultimately scorned and given a timely death?

Muddy Waters coined the 'country' name and its style. Nashville ruined it. It would only be justice to knock it off the face of the earth.

Just a hunch. I've seen a lot of fads come and go.
I am, of course, speaking of what I think will happen in the US.

Re: I Love The 00's?

Rap will probably be alive and strong in 20 years, only different.
