Interesting. Someone told me Barrett played for the song but I seem to remember seeing a video of the recording session or something where Gilmour was playing.

So when was the song recorded? I guess they did a little bit with Barrett still in the band and then finished it when he left?

Probably a live performance. Syd used to play it during 1967-1968 shows, and then Dave took over on guitar after he left the band.

Yup. The story goes that Dave played rhythm, and Syd improvised little bits in the background.

I've read (in Vernon Fitch's Pink Floyd Encyclopedia) that Syd MAY be on the released version but if so he's VERY low in the mix...

I think the whole mix is very low in the mix. Whatever that means. I really have a hard time distinguishing the bass and guitar on that track.
