Where Do They Get Off Publishing Lyric Books?!

Hi. Just wondering, where do certain rock stars/companies get off publishing flashy books that contain nothing but the *lyrics* to all of an artists' songs? I can understand a *songbook* like with the music included (piano, guitar, drum stuff included), but JUST the lyrics? Are they unaware of that thing called the internet where I can get the lyrics to every song by whatever artist I want? And usually these books are from the biggest names in music, and the big-time bands' lyrics are even easier to find on the internet. Now I might buy a book that contains the artist's written commentary on each of the lyrics or stories behind the songs, but pricing a book that contains the same content I can find on the net for free? Give me a break.
I know, I know: If you don't like it don't buy it. But it's just such a ridiculous thing. It's like someone writing an anti-Kerry or anti-Bush article...if you don't like them, don't vote for them, but you can still whine about them.
And I realize that there are still people in the world who don't have the internet (about 6 people in America, and those third world countries, in which they're more concerned with fighting off lions and AIDS than they are with Bob Dylan lyrics). But that's what those booklets that come with CDs are for! And yeah, some booklets don't have lyrics, but you can decipher them by ear (unless it's White Zombie or Kurt Cobain or someone like that), or borrow someone else's computer if you're that curious.

Sorry, just had to say it.

I think it's an alright idea. I've never owned or actually seen one of these books myself, but I don't see why you have a problem with them. Sure, it's extremely to get the lyrics off the net (if, for some reason they aren't included in the liner notes), but I'm sure it would be nice to have around.

'Cause it gets them money. There's some fans of an artist (like me) who'll buy something like that if it's packaged nicely. It's a good thing to have on the bookshelf, if there's pictures and stuff in it, rather than a little black plastic or cardboard three-ring-f*cking-binder stuffed with printed black-and-white lyrics.

I still like to ahve some kind of background info and stuff on songs.
Like U2s "One Tree Hill" was dedicated to a (roadie?) who died in New Zealand in a motorcycle accident. I like to know the inspirations and the little stories behind the songs.

I agree. Who ever is in charge should be shot...no that would be too easy. They must recieve a slow and painful death.

Hehe, just kidding. I like the pictures too. Also, in the Lamb Lies Down lyric book it gives you an explanation and analysis of the story. Kind of interesting.

One might also mention the copyright issues. Artists are entitled to some payment for their work, which they do not receive from the various net lyric files.

And many internet lyric sites' lyrics are wrong, for the most part.

Hence, the simpler idea of putting the lyrics in CD booklets, rather than *conveniently* making a whole other product that contains nothing but the same information that can easily be found elsewhere.
(*And remember here folks, I'm talking about those books with the lyrics only, no additional info, notta.*)
Hm...third world country comments a NO-NO. Shooting executives? OKI DOKE! ?????????
