Re: George Carlin

As far as stand-up comics go... George is the Godfather.. Without him, there would be nobody else.. He is the Alpha Comic...

My personal opinion.. he is the second funniest man alive, only superceeded by John Cleese. But, John does not do stand up.

I adore the way George plays with language....

"When I go to the airport, everybody wants to get on the airplane..

Get ON the airplane....

Evil Kinevil can ge ON the airplane.. I'm getting IN the airplane.... "

"The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Carlin's quotes are hilarious http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/page...ge_carlin.html

Re: George Carlin

George Carlin is the man, no question about it. He has the balls to say things that most comedians wouldn't dare talk about. His observations on life are pure gold; from the little things to the most obvious ones, he covers them all.

Re: George Carlin

I just finished "When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?", a decent follow up to "Brain Droppings"

Since the "Hippy Dippy Weatherman" appeared on Johnny Carson to report today's weather as " a great light slated to appear in the east, growing brighter by day. Darkness to appear later in the evening" I have thought Carlin was one of the best stand-ups out there. Ok, maybe you had to be in a "certain" frame of mind to appreciate him back then, but THAT was not usually a problem before the Rockefeller drug laws were brought to bear on us. I am slated to see him next month in concert.

As AnimalintheWall points out, George's candor has carried him far.

Having said that however, Carlins musings sometimes are offensive to the point that I am beginning to think that he may not be so brilliant as he is a talented wise guy with a big mouth and balls to match. For example, in some recent musings he makes light of global warming in such a way to indicate that he doesn't think that it is a problem and the US is off the hook to help out (you know, like that idiot Rush Limbaugh). Worse yet, in "When Will Jesus..." he has a short diatribe that elevates suicide bombers from the status of desparate cowardly little bastards to the status of brave warriors willing to give their lives for a cause. I'm sorry, but that demeans true warriors hoping to fight day after day against other warriors and possibly to give their lives for a cause. Allowing that suicide bombers are more than murderers is just plain sick thinking. Carlin should be ashamed.

Come to think of it, maybe I better pack a few ripe tomatos for the concert...
