I've stuck with Pearl kits for a few years now and they've never done me wrong. I've owned two, my first was a 5-piece Forum kit that lasted me about 4 or 5 years (good for an entry level kit, eh?) and I then I got a new set of Export EXRs about two months ago. Sounds good, stays together, all that stuff.

I have a Yamaha Stage Custom, but i don't like it very much. I got it for christmas many years ago and I didn't know what to ask for i just asked for drums. I wouldn't recomend it. For inexpensive drums from my expierience I'd say premier makes good kits. If I had unlimited funds I'd definitely get a Tama set. But Tama's beginner sets are terrible if you ask me. Haven't played or heard people playing DW kits so I couldn't tell you about that. But if you were looking between yamaha, pearl, premier, and tama premier is probably the way to go. I've never even heard of pulse so I can't say anythign about that. If you do end up getting into drums use aquarian heads on all your drums, they cost more but are definitely worth it.
