Hey i'm new to this web site and am i'm not a pink floyd expert like you lot seem to be. I only have The Wall, Wish you were here and Dark side of the moon. I am about to purchase my next floyd album i just wondered what you lot suggest. My favourite album is The Wall (esp disk 2) and my fav tracks are

1. Hey You
2. Us and Them
3. Another Brick
4. Wish you were here
5. Comfortably Numb

with this in mind which album should i buy next?

Hiya Mate & welcome!

I reckon that a couple of pertinent purchases would be either Animals or Obscured By Clouds. Both are a slight departure from what you might be expecting, but no less rewarding for it.

Cheers,

Mark

Welcome floydian tom! My opinion, would be "Meddle". Followed by "Animals". Anything before Meddle is really a different kind of Floyd sound. But I think Meddle is where they find their direction for the following albums. Some may differ?? You can always just start from the beginning with "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and work your way to the newly released "Echoes:The Best of Pink Floyd". They are all good in their own ways. But, I would have to stress "Meddle" to be your next Floyd album to get. Later!

Methinks Meddle would be a good purchase.
But if you want to explore more early Floyd - get Saucerful... or the first one.
For more late Floyd - The Division Bell goes without saying.
You prolly would like Animals too (though it's not my fave).
See, it's hard to suggest really...

floydian tom,

Don't listen to any of these guys/gals.

Meddle or Animals should definitely be one of your next choices considering what you say are your current favourites.

Be prepared to change that favourites list.

Welcome! so many new faces (err names)! Very nice. Anyway, I would agree with floydboy only I would say 'Animals' then 'meddle'. Of course, if the 2nd disk of the wall is your favorite then 'the final cut' may be to your liking as well.

I've always thought that new listeners should start off with Dark Side, since most people have heard that anyway and then work their way forward or backwards, buying more albums in one direction or another depending on how much they like the PF sound on that side of Dark Side. So you should buy:

Echoes: The Best Of Pink Floyd. Note the albums that the songs you like most come from and get go along that track below.

Dark Side Of The Moon (which you have), then:

Meddle or Wish You Were Here (which you have)
Obscured By Clouds or Animals
Atom Heart Mother or The Wall (which you have)
Ummagumma or The Final Cut
More or Momentary Lapse Of Reason
A Saucerful Of Secrets or The Division Bell
Piper At The Gates Of Dawn or any of the live double albums (Delicate Sound of Thunder, PULSE, The Wall Live)

If you still can't get enough try picking up Relics if you liked the earlier Floyd or Works if you liked the later Floyd

Still not enough Floyd? Well, you can always get London '66-'67 if you liked some of Syd's music. The extended version of Interstellar Overdrive on there is quite nice. But don't waste your time with A Collection Of Great Dance Songs unless you absolutely can't do without a version of Money in which two or three notes MIGHT have been changed. Enjoy!

BoaB,
I'm not trying to sound like a cry baby, but I did mention "Meddle" or "Animals" to be floydian tom's next purchase. So, according to your suggestions, which are the same as mine, he should listen to me. Right? Sorry BoaB, I'm just feeling a little "spunky" this morning!

Don't take Fixxlevy's word for it. He has'nt been a "fan" since the mid 70's. Form your own opinion and hope that Fixx will go be a "fan" somewhere else.

Don't listen to Anonymous! You should listen to what everyone else tells you and never form your own opinions.

Buy Meddle. It'll make you feel warm inside.

Don't listen to Radiochair! He'll only get you thinking strange and pink-hued thoughts before long.

floydboy: duly noted and apologies offered, but he STILL shouldn't listen to you, he should listen to me!

Meddle & Animals: taken twice daily after waking and before sleeping.
