I like some metal, but I can't do death/doom metal.

Marty Friedman is a great guitarist, I love his solo work, but I don't care for Dave Mustaine & Megadeth in general.

I'd echo Stratter's comments around Friedman, Mustane is a Jackass. (IMHO)

They are ok, but described as Metallica-lite.

I always find it hilarious that one of the original names for the proto-Floyd was "The Megadeaths."

Amusingly, Mustaine was originally a member of Metallica, but Hetfield et. al. got so tired of him they kicked him out of the band (and literally off the bus) in NYC (in mid-tour) and he had to find his own way home. Then and there, Mustaine vowed to become bigger and better than Metallica.

He never made it.

I'm still a fan of the odd individual tune, but on the whole, Mustaine's voice got whinier and their music became exceptionally tired around 'Rust in peace', which was a shame, because their early stuff, especially 'Peace sells...' and 'So far, so good, so what' are actually quite decent, for the most part. I recently downloaded 'Into the lungs of Hell' which is an ace instrumental and shall continue to listen to it for some time, I imagine.

I thought that it was that one morning, on tour and all, they just woke him up at like, 6 a.m. and gave him a ticket for a bus to catch.

I think that James actually punched him goodbye, if the Metallica doco is to be believed.

I actually met Megadeth back in the late 80s. What a bunch of schmucks. Their music precedes their reputation too.
