I never saw them, either. But now i don't want to anymore.
I would have loved to see them in the '70...

I think I probably would have prefered to see them in 1965.

(Raises hand with slight embarrasement)

Glad to see I'm not the only one, although I came close to seeing a tribute band. I don't think that counts though.

Actually, i've seen them performing today! And i'm 17,too! Ok, i've watched the PULSE VHS today, and now i am listening to ECHOES IN THE GARDEN. Their performance in the 70's is MUCH better, i think.

But... er... hey, i think the only thing we have to do to see them live is just to,
...er... invent a time-machine!

Have never seen Pink Floyd in concert. Am in my twenties and unfortunately got into Floyd too late to see them live. Instead, I just cry hysterically when I listen to live recordings of mp3s or certain songs I like... just like I probably would have done as an obsessed female groupie at their concerts... god only knows what would happen if I were to actually ever meet them! I'd probably faint. And, although it sounds pathetic, my only defense is to say that the music is just so emotional that it breaks me sometimes.

I also prefer Dave over Roger in terms of SOLO work, but would jump at any chance to see either of them. Roger isn't touring in America so that's out now (anyone know WHY he's boycotting us?) but hopefully, after I move to Germany in a year and a half, it'll be a little easier to go see Dave in one of his many European solo gigs... if he's still playing then.

Gee you did arrive a little late on the scene since Roger did an American tour in 1999/2000. Don't you people over there hear about these things over there??? jk mate, but Roger did spend two years in the US doing shows, so now it's the rest of the world's turn.

My first was in 1971. They played mostly from Ummagumma. I was living in Cleveland Ohio at the time and saw them at Kent State. What I really remember well was Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and Grand Chester Meadows. Thanks for asking I had to really try to look back through the pink haze to remember that.

Re: Raise your hand if you've never seen Pink Floyd live in concert.

For me the best show I have ever seen was the next tour in June 24, 1973. They had a very short US schedule and the show I saw was in Cleveland Ohio. Somehow they got booked into a venue called the Blossom Music Center. This is where the Cleveland Orchestra played their summer series of concerts. It is a beautiful setting in a park like area outside of the city and it was the first time a rock show was ever booked there. They sold two levels of tickets, reserved seating under the pavilion or general admit ion. General Admission was seating on a sloping grass lawn where you would put out a blanket and sit on the lawn. The general admission tickets went for the kingly sum of a whole $3.00. When I got inside of the venue I learned quickly it was going to be one hell of a show. First the place sold out of tickets in less than 5 minutes 5,000 was the maximum seating capacity but, 25,000 people showed up. When the gates opened the ticket takers quickly ran for their lives. They were used to families with their wicker baskets with their picnic lunches not the thousands of stoned, bota bag carrying rabid fans, determined to see the show. So they all cowered in an office somewhere while everyone just walked in.
Walking to the place, I was at the top of the hill looking down the grass lawn and seeing behind the pavilion was 8, 40 foot tractor trailers parked. Each was painted with the Dark Side of the Moon graphics. They had the sound system set up with two towers of speakers on the top of the hill, two more sets on the walkway just outside the pavilion, and two more columns on the stage. A 6 way speaker system was so beyond anything I had ever seen before; at 2 stories tall they were mind blowing! The band was setup on the main stage with the backup singers on a smaller stage to the right of the main stage. The backup singers were dressed in formal silver sequined gowns, the slightest movement made the dresses shimmer in the stage lighting like they were covered in glitter. The main stage was setup with the equipment seen on the back of the Umagumma album. The greatest part of the show was the music they played.
!. Obscured by Clouds
2. When you’re In
3. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
4. Careful with That Axe, Eugene
5. Echoes
6. The Dark Side of the Moon **(What made it more wonderful was it’s the first time I heard it complete. We had Records or 8 tracks or cassette tapes that all broke the music up. Live was just so wonderful)**
Encore; One of These Days
This was the show by what all others have been judged and left wanting. The likes of The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The list goes on and on to over 200 concerts and none can hold a candle to this one magic show in 1973 by Pink Floyd.

Yes 11 years after your post but that seems normal for this blog. What were the shows you saw in Cleveland??

Red face Re: Raise your hand if you've never seen Pink Floyd live in concert.

I was born two weeks before the release of TDB, so obviously I was too young to see them live. I probably could have seen Live 8 but I wasn't a Floydian yet at that time. But I saw the Live 8 show on YouTube recently, and in my opinion it sounds better than all live recordings I have! Especially "Money" is fabulous!
