I think it is one of the most underrated albums ever. It is one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums and I agree with you about being better than the stuff before it, even Meddle.

While not, I think, a DDT - I do think you'll find this thread has exactly what you're looking for.

While I just won't force myself to pick a favorite, OBC is right up there with me.

OBC used to be one of my favourites, but I got bored of it. It's a tad weak and milky - like bad tea.

OBC

OBC is an excellent album for the most part but unfortunately it features SOME filler reminiscent of MORE-soundtrack moments meant to be background music-i don't think its as good as MEDDLE or anything else that came later, but it retails for $16.99-more than the far superior FINAL CUT-so as far as Capitol Records is concerned, it's equal to all the other Capitol releases.
It's important to remember that because it's a soundtrack, it doesnt really follow any conceptual path-either musically or thematically-so that keeps it out of the league of the regular studio albums.

I like OBC becuase some of it doesn't even sound like Pink Floyd which i think is a nice change from the space rock label. Some of those songs sound like hits and i wonder why they aren't on Echoes.

I think all PF albums are under-rated (except, of course, for the god-like albums)so they just need to just put there differences aside and forgive the past, regroup and take over the world.....that would so cool.

I think that OBC is underrated by the band themselves, rather than the voting public, being that it has never even got a look in on any of their live or compilation releases, which just doesn't make sense. It's a bloody brilliant record.
