A New Machine 1 & 2 About Roger Waters???

does anybody else think the lyrics to a new machine are kind of a message to roger waters
think about it

"I have always been here
I have always looked out from behind these eyes"

it sounds like he's telling roger,
hey, i've always been the bus and i always will be the bus

"is this the way it has always been?
could it ever have been different???"

sounds like dave is asking roger if he remembers the good old days when they would collaborate on music rather than roger being the full bus of the band and wanting to write everything

the "its only a lifetime" part and the "nobody lives forever" part is dave telling roger he needs to get over it (the fact that pink floyd continues without him) cause there is no sense in holding a grudge and what is done is done

i dont agree with what dave is saying but i still think that is what those 2 are about
i mean why else just put an empty vocal track on a record 2 times

plus the fact that it is recorded in a open arena may be an attack like saying that he(Dave) is bigger than the 2 of them
really egotistical
but thats Dave

That's an interesting interpretation. Actually I like those two little tracks, interesting vocoder work on it.

Personally, I think those tracks have more to do with the half-baked "concept" of Momentary Lapse rather than simply being rancorous anti-Roger potshots, which really only started to emerge after the record came out.

And why would Dave perform them every night on tour as they are on the album (bracketing TF) unless they had something to do with the message of Terminal Frost? Do you in fact surmise that the frost in question is an icy lack of communication between the two camps? Pffff.

now your talking
that makes sense to me
i still think a new machine 1&2 and terminal frost are all hidden messages to roger waters
i mean if they are not, then what the hell is the point???
both new machines arent really even songs, they are album fillers if they dont have a message behind them
its just him talking in an open arena
i think on AMLOR and TDB both have several hidden messages to roger waters

think about this part in sorrow...

"He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise
In his youth or a dream, he can't be precise
He's chained forever to a world that's departed
It's not enough, it's not enough"

lost paradise-roger being in floyd
chained forever to a world thats departed-obviously talking about roger will never be in floyd again(world departed)

i may be reading to much into this
but i have been listening to this record since it came out and i think it is talking about roger alot of the times
and think about it
it wouldnt be the first time a song was written about a former band member.....shine on

Who knows, maybe it is anti-Roger. I certainly haven't listened to AMLOR as much as other Floyd albums, and I haven't payed a lot of attention to the lyrics, but I would not doubt if it was anti-Roger.

if any song is about Rog I think it's a great day for freedom

"On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived"

kinda sounds like he's refering to the wall being the last album they did as a whole, and now that Rog is gone "freedom had arrived"

byt the rest of the song I'm not to sure about

"a silence that speaks so much louder than words of promises broken"

i think that sums up the classic floyd lineup's breakup

You should be careful. Hostile intros don't usually prove as a precursor to a happy, accepted, and loved member.
