I love their ballads. The first album is fine, haven`t heard much from other albums. I think they`re ok.

I think Creeping Death is a good song. But for God's sake, every other song sounds like it. I guess thats expected from metal. I just like a little more variety.

Re: System of a Down underrated

Give me a break, all metal sounds the same? I'm not the biggest metal fan at all, but I still love listening to modern bands like Dream Theater and The Mars Volta... there's not much of anything better coming out of the music scene then those groups. If you're talking about metal you generally hear on the radio and such, then yeah.. I would tend to agree that its all rubbish.

I like some metal bands and it's not all sounds the same. I don't think that Metallica is a heavy metal band. I don't like them!

Re: System of a Down underrated

Disregarding a whole genre as rubbish is a bit rough, don't you think?

I think that one of the problems of metal is that the search for aggresiveness and the constant use of power chords and riffs can make it a bit monotonous in terms of melody. But, still, there's a lot of variety if you take a listen to the many different bands that can be considered as metal. Robert Fripp played live with Tool and I think that Robert Fripp knows a thing or two about music (at least he has been in the business for nearly 40 years now).

Also, some of the greatest drummers that are around today play in metal bands. Just listen to Danny Carey from Tool.

Nah I disagree. I will not go as far as to say there are absolutely no good metal bands out there. Not unless I somehow managed to listen to all metals bands in the world. But, from my experience with a bunch of metal bands, I have made the conclusion that I do not like metal.

I don't think thats rough at all. Stereotypes, no matter how detrimental they can be, are very useful. As my professor used to say regarding stereotypes: "you don't go outside and say: its 34.27094489294 degrees; you go outside and say: holy shit, its cold."

Re: System of a Down underrated

That's an approximation, not a stereotype. If it were 34.27094489294 degrees outside, and it were Monday in January, you'd be stereotyping if you said "how very like a January Monday to be 34.27094489294 degrees."

A more useful approximation would be "I don't like any metal I've heard, therefore I don't want to listen to metal bands".

You're right. I don't know why I used the term stereotype in this situation.

Re: System of a Down underrated

I just listened to a half dozen SOAD songs on Napster.

Half of them I turned off before they played 30 seconds. The other half weren't bad, but nothing I would care to listen to again.

Verdict: You can have them.
