Talking Pink Floyd "In A Nutshell" mixes.

I really don't know if this is legal... I doubt it. But, I had some requests to post some or all of my mixes of Pink Floyd albums.

I basically tried shortening each album down to about 20 minutes or so, while attempting to keep the natural flow and feel of the albums and songs.... thus, "In a Nutshell"

WHO THIS IS FOR:
Anyone who likes to hear Pink Floyd songs in a different form...
Anyone thinking "An album in 20 minutes or so? How will THAT work?!"

WHO THIS IS NOT FOR:
Anyone who felt that the new mix of Echoes was against all holy laws.
Anyone who just wants to complain that I ripped out various pieces.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Okay, here's how I worked it.... Each album was done in a slightly different manner.

You will notice varying lengths of songs... that is simply because some songs are more repetitious than others. I attempted to move on as soon as the listener got the point.

I will upload 2 of them every few days, due to their size..... don't wanna overload my friend's server all at once. =O) Uhm, people with dialups may or may not wan to attempt it.... usually about 15-20 megs or so... MP3 format..... well yeah. here we go.

Re: Pink Floyd "In A Nutshell" mixes.

Okay, the first two are up.... Piper at the Gates of Dawn and Saucerful of Secrets ........ nothing spectacular about these. Kinda gives you the point of what I am doing........ the later albums were the more difficult ones as all the songs flew together or were 20+ minutes long. But, I'll start at the beginning. =O)

Yes I have,.... did they mention something like that in there?! If so, I never noticed. I honestly don't remember where I got that phrase, but I have been using it for YEARS.

Great movie until Smash Mouth appeared.

Great stuff! I love doing this sort of thing myself, but purely for my own private amusement... I'd be careful who sees that ftp directory, posting that stuff most certainly would not please a record company mp3bot.

*L* That's why I'm not hosting it!!

Either way, I think I got the idea from the Mixthology (that was never finished.... ) and they never did that in order..... just by era. So i wanted one for each specific album, mainly to show people what each one sounded like when I knew they werent going to sit and listen to the whole thing...

...also, for my own amusement.

Hey, I'm in the catagory of people who wouldn't like it. But hey, that's a REALLY cool thing you're doing, legal or not... Maybe I will listen to it...

Re: Pink Floyd "In A Nutshell" mixes.

I've started working on this mix... using only about 90 seconds from each song:

Apples and Oranges
Burning Bridges
Careful With That Axe, Eugene
Dogs
Empty Spaces
Fearless
Green is the Colour
Have A Cigar
Interstellar Overdrive
Julia Dream
Keep Talking
Lucifer Sam
Mother
Not Now John
Obscured By Clouds
Paintbox
Quicksilver
Run Like Hell
San Tropez
Terminal Frost
Up the Khyber
Vera
Welcome to the Machine
Merry Xmas Song (Nick Mason solo)
Your Possible Pasts
Zabriskie Point - Crumbling Land

I'll need a place to upload it if y'all wanna hear it.

Wow! Those mixes are rather neat, especially if you have ADD!
But seriously, this is a great way to introduce someone (or yourself) to an album.

Re: Pink Floyd "In A Nutshell" mixes.

Well, new additions to the link above: I have uploaded 3 more of them....

- More (nothing spectacular here. I noticed in the first few minutes a weird cut where the keyboard suddenly gets LOUDER.... I think that MAY be on the actual album, or maybe I was just half-asleep when I did this one.)

- Ummagumma (a shorter shorter version of the album,.... perhaps I may have made the album better by shortening it!!!)

- Atom Heart Mother (this is where I started getting creative.... I put much more thought into this and all to follow. Notice the overlapping of lyrics and solos in both If and Fat Old Sun... also, nice short version of Breafast.)

I will get more up in a couple days.... check back. =O) It all get's good from here!!

I think you were asleep... that one wasn't nearly as enjoyable as the others you've done so far.

Agreed... good stuff!

Yeah, I think I was still trying to figure out just what I was gonna do with the whole thing. What I did to Division Bell is my favourite.... we'll get there. I'm uploading a few more tonite.

On a side note, finally got me a SACD player.... I never want to hear Dark Side of the Moon in plain stereo EVER again. **sigh**

Re: Pink Floyd "In A Nutshell" mixes.

well here we go:

- Meddle -- Yes, another, shorter version of Echoes.... as if the last one wasn't short enough.... well, it wasn't!!!

- Obscured By Clouds -- Don't remember if I did anything overly neat on this one... it keeps to the feel of the album quite well I believe. I'm sure somewhere in there I got creative with the overlapping parts. Good god, in AMLOR though, practically the entire thing's just overlapping song parts!!!

- Dark Side of the Moon -- I can't believe I did it. Also, I added a bell in "Breathe Reprise" a la "Pulse" ..... I like it there, so you can live with it.

....I will wait a couple days for the next ones...... download away!

Re: Pink Floyd "In A Nutshell" mixes.

ok, more of them.... almost done now!!! If you havent downloaded any of them or all of them, download these!!!

- Wish You Were Here -- I don't even remember what all I cut from SOYCD 1-5.... The 3 middle songs are basically just obviously short versions.... I cut parts 6 and 8 I believe from the last bit of SOYCD..... good stuff. one of my favourites I've done.

- Animals -- This one nearly gave me an emotional breakdown. I am sure I had at elast 3 anxiety attacks trying to decide what to cut here. So I cut out the middle of Dogs, even though it's HONESTLY not obvious... Also, just to make up for the fact that I rid of things, I put the entire Pigs On The Wings 8 track version, complete with guitar solo.... remastered on a DSOTM cd I somehow obtained. I figured if I add rare stuff, it makes up for me chopping to bits things I love. Look for the cut in Dogs, zips by pretty quick. Also, pay attention to the outro.... i did a sum-up of Pigs on the Wings.

- The Wall parts 1 and 2 (in seperate files) -- I added What Shall We Do Now? and the 45 single "Waters-less" version of Bring the Boys Back Home.... also to make up for destroying a masterpiece. I think overall I did a pretty decent job of the whole thing, considering my ORIGINAL idea of "The Wall In A Nutshell" was to simply use the one track of "Outside the Wall" .... that song pretty much sums up the whole thing.

- The Final Cut -- This is actually the 3rd one I did. (AMLOR first, then Division Bell and then this, and then I went to the beginning of it all... the Wall being last on my list) People may hate me for including When The Tigers Broke Free.... but I like it there, so you get to live with it. OH! I included part 2 of The Hero's Return.... I like THAT there too. Once again, I like what I did to most of this one. Listen to Not Now John for the mixing of the Obscured Version and the album version. I used both.

.... only two more..... please let me know what you think of all previous ones though. (or all you've heard) I enjoy peoples' honest opinions, as long as they're constructive. ....
