There's one thing that always bothered me about the P.U.L.S.E recording, the sound quality, it just sucks. The treble is all muddy and the bass is terrible. Some of the performances are better in some ways than the originals (ok I know I'll get flamed for this...) but the poor sound quality really ruins it.
Now I always thought it was poor because it was a live recording and you can't get the same acoustic purity as you get in a closed studio, but then I noticed something... Is There Anybody Out There 80-81 was also recorded live and it sounds WAY better, inspite being recorded using analog equipment from the early 80's. So what gives?!

Anyone?

I agree, the recording quality is not all that great. And for some reason, the Guiness Encyclopedia of Popular Music said and I quote, "[Pulse is a] perfectly recorded live album." But then again, they put that Gilmour was born in '44 instead of '46, and they printed "Obscured by Clouds" as "Obscured by CLOWNS." Seriously.
(Also, I think the well-reputed {for some reason} live version of "Dark Side of the Moon" sounds feverish and gritty, certainly not reflecting the mood and theme of the set.

That's funny, the sound quality of PULSE was actually very good in my opinion. And...I may be a PF heretic, but I actually PREFER the PULSE version to the original in most places! I can lose myself as the notes wash around me, through me...and believe it or not, it takes nothing more than my own mind and the music.

I prefer many versions in PULSE over the originals, SOYCD for starters, WYWH, comfortably numb (only the outro solo, the singing is boring), comming back to life, what do you want from me, time, actually all of the DSOTM part. BUT, as I said, the sound quality just makes my ears squeeze sometimes, especially after hearing a studio album because that's when you notice the difference and realize how much noise the live recording has.

Still I don't understand why it sounds so bad, I'd say the sound technicians weren't doing their job...

The other notable instance (besides DSotM) is "Learning to Fly". Is it me, or was the original airplane sound replaced with that of a jet engine? The way that awesome noise thunders through the arena, I would think it was! It really does sound like some sort of massive aircraft taking off. I think of it every time I fly!

I've got PULSE on vinyl. I think that it sounds pretty good.

Sound quality Pulse has never bothered me. I've always thought it was fairly good.
