Re: PINK FLOYD'S MUSIC: SOUNDTRACK TO HISTORY (Part 4): "The Division Bell" and Jesus Tempted by Satan

(*Note: I don't want replies like "This isn't a religious site." I know that, I'm just comparing something.*) Now compare the lyrics of "What Do You Want For Me?" to the event in the Bible in Matthew Chapter 4, in which Jesus was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil. But Jesus rejected all of Satan's temptations and empty promises. "Away with you Satan!" (Matthew 4:10) Now: "If I don't promise you the answers would you go?" Then, in verses 8-9, the Devil takes Jesus up to a high place and shows him all the kingdoms and offers them to Jesus if He will bow down and worship him. "You can own everything you see, you can drift, you can dream, you can walk on waters, anything you want..." But still, Jesus rejected Satan's empty promise.
Then there's "Poles Apart;" Did you know it was all going to go so wrong for you? Compare that to Revelation 20:10, in which it describes when the Devil is thrown into the lake of fire. Then, there's the self-explanatory line "And did you see it was all going to go so right for me?"

Interesting, very.

Only i don't believe Gilmour's (or his girlfriend's) allegorical senses are that deep.

I don't think their allegorical senses are that deep either, but I know they didn't write in like on purpose.

They potentially are. She is a broadsheet journalist, after all. I just don't think that they'd bother. Wasn't that what Sheep was all about?

Cheers,

Mark

NOTE: "Sheep" was written by Roger Waters not Polly Sampson and David Gilmour.

Nah. If you juxtapose biblical text you could attibute just about every human experience to scripture.

What's the point? What is the import of such comparison being true? PF are bible thumping POP revivalists? Doubt it.

Dubiously Floydian,
Byron

I don't recall ever ever calling the Floyd "Bible-thumpers". And yes, you can compare just about every human experience to some Scripture. That's one of the reasons the Bible exists. Also, in my first post in this little "series" I state that I am saying in no way that these coincidences are intentional.

Re: PINK FLOYD'S MUSIC: SOUNDTRACK TO HISTORY (Part 4): "The Division Bell" and Jesus Tempted by Satan

Though you never claimed that it was so, nor did I say that you had, with these biblical "coincidences" what are we to assume, other than that PF are somehow cleverly interweaving scriptural events/subjects into their music?

If this is the case, then I could very well describe them as "bible-thumping POP revivalists". Ne c'est pas?

Or have I the wrong end of the stick?

Incredulously Floydian,
Byron

You wouldn't HAVE to assume that the Floyd were interweaving Scriptural references into their music on purpose if they had read my first post in the series, where I say that in no way am I stating that this is all intentional. I hope I don't have to keep explaining this.

With respect, then what is the purpose of your posts in comparing scripture with PF lyrics?

Just pointing out the coincidences? There must be more to it than that. What is to be concluded from such comparisons?

Just thought...I'd ask.

It's just something I found interesting, thought I'd like to share it. That's all.

Well, in that case I shall reply no more.

Except, it might have been easier to take all your "interesting" items if they had appeared under one new topic instead of several.

Struck me as very odd. Just something I thought I would share.

Re: PINK FLOYD'S MUSIC: SOUNDTRACK TO HISTORY (Part 4): "The Division Bell" and Jesus Tempted by Satan

Can't we just charitably transfer all these into "Sychronicities"?

Re: PINK FLOYD'S MUSIC: SOUNDTRACK TO HISTORY (Part 4): "The Division Bell" and Jesus Tempted by Satan

No, we can't transfer them to synchronicities because if you listen to "What Do You Want From Me?" and "Poles Apart" it will not follow the Scripture I'm comparing it to word for word.
And plus, if I weren't comparing this to the Scripture, I don't think anybody would care.
