Yes, the first name they used with "Pink Floyd" in it was "The Pink Floyd Sound". They later shortened it to "The Pink Floyd" and later simply "Pink Floyd".

They first formed in 1964, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason attend the Regent Street Polytechnic School for Archetecture. Nick and Rick shared a flat together. The Floyd had many names before they were the Floyd (Adabs, T-Set, even "The Megadeaths") Syd Barrett was a friend of Roger. When the became "The Pink Floyd Sound" Bob Klose was a part of the band. When he left they became "The Pink Floyd". After Syd's departure it was just "Pink Floyd"

Actually, unfeasably, it's half true. Apparently, he lived with a "terminally-freaked" couple in Richmond, a suburb of London, and during almost the entire duration of his stay, they put acid in his morning tea/coffee.

You can look at it in a number of different ways, all of which must include the phrase "those stupid, irresponsible, total idiots", but if none of it had happened, there'd be no Dark Side, no Obscured By Clouds, and especially, no Wish You Were Here.

That's the most positive thing I can say about it.

yeah, and where else would they have gotten the inspiration for stuff like 'dark side..', 'wish you were here', and like half of 'the wall'. syd is not just a legend in and of himself, he embodies the myth that is pink floyd.
