| What Do You Think About When Listening To Floyd? I don't know if this is a stupid question/topic or not. This is only my second posting to this group and I had to ask, for it's nice to finally meet some people whom appreciate this music group apparently as much as I always have. My question is: What do you think about when listening to Pink Floyd? I started listening to them when I was about 10 years old. My older brother had bought me Piper I believe it was as a present. I am 30 now and have had 20 great years of discovering all their albums and songs one by one. I have never listened to Floyd casually. I only listen to their music when I can disect every note and every lyric, and submerse myself and appreciate the feeling of awe that washes over me. See, I just don't know if this is going to sound weird cause I've rarely spoken of Floyd or these things w/ another fan. When I listen to them, I'm sometimes transported to another world (mentally of course). A world of sorrow and desolation; a beautiful but barren place where memories of youth are sadly missed. I used to hike this gorgeous park in the winter time--the park was massive with two lakes, deserted beaches, a golf course-over 4 square miles in all and typically I'd be the only one there. I couldn't even describe the views. As soothing as the sounds of nature would be, I would sometimes take my headphones and listen to Shine On there--all 8 parts!!! Just recalling it gives me the chills! I would feel as if I was on some distant planet far from earth, every tree and blade of grass blankented in glimmering white snow, myself the only one there, but the omnipotent, all-encompassing music of Pink Floyd would be right there with me, for it speaks not only of things here on earth, but anywhere and everywhere throughout the grand universe. I have others thoughts for Obscured By Clouds, Echoes, and most definitely Animals, but I won't go into those here. My answer could be a thousand pages, but I don't want to bore anyone. So, if this didn't come across as too strange, I would LOVE to hear what others think about when they listen to Floyd, for maybe than I wouldn't feel so alone in those magnificant thoughts and visions their music generates for me. Thanks for reading!! Robert D. Illinois U.S. |

| Re: What Do You Think About When Listening To Floyd? Welcome to the forum! When I listen to Pink Floyd I try to free my head from all thoughts and let the music come in my head. I once started a thread like this. You can see it here: How do you listen to Pink Floyd?

| Re: What Do You Think About When Listening To Floyd? That park sounds cool. Most of the time when I listen to Pink Floyd I think of where I was/how I obtained that album when I first heard it. I got WYWH for my 14th birthday and I always think about that night when I first got it. But when I listen to anything from Meddle I think of the Pompeii DVD and I pretty much watch OoTD and Echoes in my head. I know what you mean though, it's pretty spacy and makes you think about weird stuff. I actually don't listen to floyd much lately though. Welcome to the forum! |

| Re: What Do You Think About When Listening To Floyd? Whenever I put in an album, it's a different experience every time. Sometimes when I listen to Floyd while laying on my bed, I can zone out (almost like meditating) and go on some long journeys through the subconsious. |

| Re: What Do You Think About When Listening To Floyd? generally, how indefinably sad and beautiful life is.
