Red Hot Chili Peppers Thread

Yep I was 9 years old when I first heard the Chili Peppers. The first song I ever heard from them was Scar Tissue (just when it had come out). These guys got me so into rock music. I love them. I picked up a guitar becuase of them. I mean Flea is the bass god. He may not shred like Victor Wooten. But Flea bass lines harmonize with the guitar like no other. The drums are great and very alive. The singing, is a lil weird at first but you love it later on. And as for the guitar AMAZING. John Frusciante is the biggest musical Influence I have. The way he uses the wah, those funky riffs, those creative soothing guitar works. Its all good. Great Stuff. I would listen to chili peppers from 9 years old to 11, without ever listening to anything else. At 12 i started like Floyd, Hendrix, and so forth. Till this day i am not tired of their great music. And John actually got me into liking my second biggest music hero Syd Barrett. I checked out some of the songs John had covered and saw the name Syd Barrett. I remember this guy used to be in Pink Floyd. So I thought wouldnt hurt to see if this guy was any good. And ya he was great. Anyway Chili Peppers are just an amazing awsome great fantastic group. Who agrees? And if u dont like them dont reply.

Yeah.. you'll find that with a lot of 12-20 yr olds these days, for many of them, their first rock band would have been the chilis.. and not a bad start either. I think they're awesome, and I never tire of em. As for Flea.. he really is a bass god, I don't think there's anyone quite like him in this world.

cheers

Chilli Peppers own. Flea is the man. Keddis has an amazing voice. And their guitar player is a badass. 'Nuff said.

They're not spectacular, but they are quite good. It's one of the few bands that my friends and I BOTH like (they're not so big on the Floyd and whatnot). But yeah, I find them quite enjoyable, even if they do tend to get a bit pop-rockish at times.

BTW...Californication is their best album, in my opinion. What do you guys think? (Actually the only other ones I have are BSSM and By The Way...I've heard some of their other stuff, and wasn't greatly impressed.)

They're good sometimes but I cannot stand an entire album, after 5 or 6 songs I find them plain boring.

I like One Hot Minute (album) very much, i like it whole, while the other albums i simply cannot listen from beginning to the end. it bores me a little

One HOt Minute is very different from their other albums...maybe because Dave Navarro played guit then..don't know why
but it's definatelly one of the best alternative albums i've heard and own

there are few songs on this californication album i like: parallel universe, Emit remus, porcelain...songs otherside and californication are too much boring for me, i think that i actually never played them on cd after i heard them on tv...
and on the newest...well i don't know song's names so it doesn't matter at all what i think...

Me too, only substitute 5 or 6 for 1 or 2, I'm baffled as to their currently immense popularity.

Blood Sugar Sex Magick is their best album without a doubt. The bass playing on that album is possibly the best in the last 20 years.
They refuse to play stuff off "One Hot Minute" anymore, even though it's so popular, I think it was cos it was such a dark time for them and John was in rehab and they did a whole album without him.

I really wanna get "Scar Tissue" Anthony's autobiography.

RHCP are great. I don't like them as much as I used to (I was a naive, unsuspecting chappy at the time), but they've made some amazing music. Their best record is quite obviously the magical, blissed out Summery funk of BloodSugarSexMagik, although Mother's Milk (their last record of the 80s, their first with Smith and Frusciante), One Hot Minute (greatly underrated mid-90s rock record made with Dave Navarro) and Californicatrion (BSSM part 2) are almost as good.

By The Way is OK too, but it's basically Frusciante solo album. Flea and Smith are greatly underused on it. Their 80s stuff ranges from great (Mother's Milk) to good (Uplift Mofo Party Plan) to piss-poor (Freaky Styley). Oh yeah, I like their eponymous debut too (a 30 minute bit of fun), but it's not for everyone.

I feel the same way about RHCP. The first song I heard was otherside, and it's still the best (:

I've been discovering stuff about some of the songs.. like.. I could have lied is about and to Sinead O'Connor and Tearjerker is about Kurt Kobain. They are certainly a band with a lot of love for each other, considering the shit they've been through, it's a miracle they're still around to provide us with the great chili sounds. We want chili willy!

cheers
