Is there anyone here who also likes classical music?

Re: Classical Music

Absolutely!

Some of my favourite composers (in no particular order): Bach, Beethoven, Berlioz, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, Copland, and more.

Re: Classical Music

I LOVE classical music. Especially the works of Mozart and Chopin. My favorite classical tune is "Ein Klein Nacht Muzak" by Mozart (or "A Little Night Music"). But, in about a hundred years, people will be calling Pink Floyd, The Ramones, and even (*shudders*) Korn and Backstreet Boys "classical music."

Re: Classical Music

I have just started recently on my serious journey into classical music. Picked up some Beethoven and Mozart to get myself started and enjoyed what I heard, so I figure I'll continue. I know that Rog and Rick both used to be 'obsessed' with Berlioz, so I figure I'll grab some of his stuff. But are there any composers other than those three that are recommended? Aside from the obvious choices like Tchaikovsky, Bach, and so on.

Re: Classical Music

Although my name has "metal" and classical is nowhere near metal, I believe that classical and true rock go hand in hand. Both worlds are expressed in sounds. Like Beethoven said,

"Music should strike fire into the heart of a man and bring tears to the eyes of a woman."

And Alexander Pope's

"Music resembles poetry; in each are nameless graces which no methods teach, and which a master hand alone can reach."

Besides, Metallica met with the San Fransisco Orchestra to make "S&M", and that CD should be considered a classic itself, making both worlds coincide so naturally and beautifully...

Re: Classical Music

Take a look at the late great Randy Rhoades. He was trained in classical music very heavily.

Re: Classical Music

Mr. Wright was into Berlioz?!!!

I cannot believe this!

I just recently heard Berlioz for the first time, and from my very first listening, I had this sneaky feeling about Mr. Wright having some connection to his work. Odd, that...kind of a Twilight Zone moment!

Re: Classical Music

Well, I read an interview with some member of the band (I think it was Dave), and he said that Rick was into stuff like Berlioz. As for Rog, that was an interview with him that he stated he once was obsessed with him, but is not anymore.

Re: Classical Music

Well, that is VERY interesting to know. I also wonder about Stravinsky as a possible influence of Mr. Wright's...there's something about the way certain composers paint a picture in music that really reminds me of Mr. Wright.

Re: Classical Music

WEll I Like both Rock music and Classical music. some of my Favourite composers: Mozart,Beethoven,Vivaldi,Bach,Verdi,Rossini,
Pucini.
Plus, Pink Floyd, In their Phase From
"Atom Heart Mother" to "Wish You Were Here"
Belonged to the Progressive rock Genre, Which combined Rock Music with Classical Music and Jazz. although they were more on the mainstream part of this movement, they did their part.

Re: Classical Music

Wagner, the power, the emotion. I don't think anything heavier has came along yet.
Beethoven, Liszt, love the Symphonic Poems
Bach, the master.
Mahler.
Most of it really I've really enjoyed since I was a child.
Mozart was the only unlistenable for me. Just never liked the dude.
