Re: Albums Of The Year - 2004

Final Straw by Snow Patrol and Feel-good lost by Broken Social Team were good.
I agree with Shane G. though, better albums came out last year (that i'm aware of!).

Re: Albums Of The Year - 2004

Travis came out with a new album, I haven't heard it yet. If anyone has i'd be interested in knowing if it's any good. I liked Travis' earlier albums.

Dammit Cheese! I was planning on making this thread, but was waiting until December, or when the new U2 cd came in...

I pre-ordered that online a while ago, so I'm still waiting for it to come in. I think it'll be quite good though, better than ATYCLB (I hope)....but I think it would be hard to be this year's best release.

Among the albums I picked up this year, that came out this year were:

Ayreon-"The Human Equation"
Blackfield-"Blackfield"
Wilco-"A Ghost is Born"
REM-"Around The Sun"
U2-"HTDAAB" (soon)

I think it's a tie between "The Human Equation" and "Blackfield". They are both truely amazing. But they are all quite good...I found Wilco's release to be suprisingly good, since I had gotten "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot," and thought it was good, but a bit tedious. "A Ghost Is Born" is much more exciting and emotional. REM's "ATS" is pretty good too...much better than the "eh" stuff they've been releasing for a while now.

Re: Albums Of The Year - 2004

I heard Knopfler's Shangri La and it's amazing, easily the best album to come out this year.

Well Brian Wilson released Smile, and while I'm not that big of a fan of it, it was about time that thing got released.

I don't like what they did to "Good Vibrations." U2 sucks and has continued to suck for a long time now.

Re: Albums Of The Year - 2004

Actually, you are both wrong. They started to get a bit off track after "Actung Baby" with "Pop" and "Zooropa," but they were just progressing towards something that was different than what they were doing before. No shame in that. I agree too, though, that ATYCLB was a bit dull and overrated, but I hope HTDAAB is better.

I don't have very many albums that were released this year. Last year kicked ass.

Re: Albums Of The Year - 2004

Yeah i'm one year behind but i'm finding a lot of great stuff from 2003. And considering half of the albums we're mentioning are reissues or by rather old bands, it doesn't make this year look too innovative. But hey, the Pearl Jam greatest hits CD came out. I guess that's something to cheer for.
