Re: Gilmour Sound

Or a Tele (Run Like Hell), or a Taylor (Money), or a Les Paul (ABitWpt2)...

Re: Gilmour Sound

And I said: You can.
Not all songs are played with a Fender on the studio versions.
To quote Gilmourish:
"Dave could make a P-bass sound like a strat."

It's the fingers.

Re: Gilmour Sound

Tarin, let me quote gilmourish too..
"Which Guitar?
You’ll need a single coil guitar. Whether you’re playing on a cheap copy or a vintage Fender, doesn’t really matter, but trying to achieve a decent Floyd sound with a Les Paul, will drive you insane."

Re: Gilmour Sound

Speaking about guitars, what was that guitar that Gilmour was playing on the DSotM DVD when doing the Time solo, Breathe, Us and Them, etc. ? It looked like the neck was very wide.

Re: Gilmour Sound

Well once again as i have posted before delay is the better of the two. But i must say ur effects should be based on the time period gilmour was playin. Here are some basic stuff from time periods. And it never hurts to use some reverb from your amp.

1968-1972 = Wah, Fuzz, Delay
1973-1975= Wah, Fuzz, Delay, Univibe, Phaser. (since univibe too expensive use Mxr phase 90 as sub.)
1976-1979= Wah, Fuzz, Big Muff Pi, Flanger, Phaser, Univibe (once again phaser is a great sub.), Delay, Compressor, and if you want Chorus.

As for the after stuff, just figure it out with ear.

And to quote Dave:
"I used my Taylor guitar for 'Money'".

He also used a Les Paul for "ABItWpt2".

So, you can't play all of David Gilmour with a Les Paul or a non-singlecoil guitar, but you can play some.

Re: Gilmour Sound

I never said he never played anything else, but to achieve his sound you need a single coiler. And i hardly think 3 songs are his sound. And he played strat live on those songs.

Re: Gilmour Sound

I read somewhere that DG played the taylor gtr on ' money ' b/c it had more frets on it - allowing him to play the ultra-hi notes we hear in the solo which is played thru a compressor unit

Re: Gilmour Sound

The guitarist in The Machine uses a Fender with a humbucker. I must say that his guitar sounds were pretty damn close to gilmour too.
