Starbucks: Evil Empire or Warm Safe Haven?

Yes yes, they charge 4 dollars for a cup of coffee while Columbian coffee growers only make a dollar a lb. But I love Starbucks! The warm environment is so soothing and comforting in the winter. I go there every wednesday night with my friends and we discuss politics, religion, and everything important. It's a very important part of my life. A lot of people think they're an evil corporation and maybe they are...

My favorite cold drinks are: Caramel Frappuccino, Peppermint Mocha Frappucinno

Hot drinks: Caramel Machiatto, Peppermint Mocha

Is Starbucks evil?
What are your favorite drinks from there?

Since the folks gave us a cappucino machine a couple years ago, and we learned how to do it properly, I'll go with 'evil empire' - four bucks for their stuff is outrageous.

It is an evil regime of the coffee empire, but I don't mind being part of the mindless grunts that go in anyway.

Actually Starbucks attempts to pay Fair Trade or close-to-Fair Trade prices for all their beans, regardless if the farmers have the Fair Trade certification. Fair Trade is attempting to establish the minimum price for beans at $1.26 per pound, and according to Sue Mecklenburg, vice president of business practices for Starbucks, the company purchases all its beans at an average of $1.20 per pound. So it's under Fair Trade standards, but not a ton-- still 69˘ over the current market price.

Make of that what you will.

Coffeeshops rule, too bad we don't have Starbucks here. I'd love to go there for a coffee and a smoke sometime.
