Re: Dark Side "remix" download

I liked the whole thing. Anytime you could hear Pink Floyd diffrently and make them sound "new: is awesome since they aren't putting out anything. So thanks I appreciate the music.

Re: Dark Side "remix" download

Jeez, Botley... ya think you're being a little too critical? hummm? Perhaps you can add my "remix" to your nitpicking website.

Quote:
Originally posted by Botley Actually, the 1973 Pompeii "sessions" were filmed after almost all of the album recordings had been finished. They were just overdubbing on top of the master for the cameras to make it seem like they were still in the process of adding stuff. Bit of a con, really.

Ture, however "actually" your dates are wrong. Pompeii was filmed in 1972. Dark side was recorded the same year, not 73.

Quote:

Not really... if you're going to remix the album, why not use as little of the original mix as possible? Besides, perfect or not it's still a breach of copyright.

Perhaps, but thats was not the point of what I was doing. Hence "remix" in quotes.

Quote:
Winamp says it's at 32 kHz, 160 kbps. I got heavy midrange distortion throughout the entire track, and quite an earache after sitting through the whole thing.

Interesting... it does say it. Thank you for pointing that out. Sounds excellent on my winamp. Maybe you need to adjust your EQ. Anyways...I think the person that's hosting this for me downsampled it. Not sure why. It was not uploaded that way from my end.

"its about the music...and there is always one in the croud."

Re: Dark Side "remix" download

1971 actually....

<quote http://pinkfloydhyperbase.dk/film/pompei.htm>

There are now 3 different releases of this film:

* The original theatrical version from 1971 is about 60 minutes long and only has the recordings from Pompeii.

* In 1973 a new "full length version" was released with new clips added. Director Adrian Maben had visited Pink Floyd in the studio while they were recording the historical album Dark Side of The Moon. These sequences from the studio, interviews and footage of Pink Floyd eating oysters and applepie in the Abbey Road Studios were put in between the original songs. The full length version runs for about 80 minutes.

* For the newly released DVD we finally have soemthing called the "directors cut". Again Adrian Maben went back to the editing table, but this time he should probably have stayed away. The films original opening sequence has been changed into some poor CGI animations of planets circling around in space and a rocket launching (completely uninteresting and doesn't match the great Pompeii footage). The long and daring zoom in Echoes part 1 has been cut in pieces. Other old clips from the dustbin has also been added: suddenly we see an old lady crossing the street in front of Abbey Road or a bus passing. In the last part of the film we fly through a computer animated version of the old Pompeii. Makes you think of Discovery Channel and is all in all distracting and out of content. The directora cut is 92 minuntes long.

... The DVD features two versions of the film: The directors cut and the original 1971 version.

</quote>

I guess technically Botley was right about the 1973, if he was referring to the one most people knew about and saw... Also, the above quote would mean that the clips from the studio-work was filmed in 73.

imdb.com states that it was from 1972. The cinema premiere of the film was Sept 1972....... (being the 1971 version)

I guess we're all right in our own perverse little ways.

NICE...

My book however, The Pink Floyd Encyclopedia by Vernon Fitch (aknowleged by Nick Mason in Inside Out) says different. It gives the dates as 1972. (i tend to believe a source thats endorsed by the band than one that is not)

all in all.... it's mad cool being able to chat with other die hard Floyd freaks.

There should be a Pink Floyd Channel on Cable or Sat. I can see all the "crossfire" type of shows over Floyd debates interlaced with news, videos...
FUN FUN

cheers

Re: Dark Side "remix" download

I didnt mind the first chorus in brain damage , with that solo , it was as good or better... but the acoustic chorus doesn't seem to fit.

Re: Dark Side "remix" download

I like the whole remix, I actually think it is top shelf and an excellent mix of all the best recorded tracks, any way to get this by a track by track download?

I'm just telling you what I think. I had the idea to do something like this myself a while ago, and I envisioned it turning out much differently, that's all.

You'll notice I haven't really updated that website in 2 years and it's nowhere near complete.

Unabeefer is correct. The actual live music in Pompeii was filmed from 4-7 October 1971 (dates given by Nick himself in his book's chronology). This original version of the film was released in 1972. But the idea to film the band in the studio, according to Maben on the DVD's making-of featurette, was hit upon after the film's first release while Dark Side was still being recorded. Footage for the second version, with interviews and "overdubs" which weren't serious attempts at the master (according to Dave in a recent interview), was filmed in 1973, edited into the existing film, and given a much wider theatrical release in 1974.

Dark Side of The Moon was recorded between,
6/1/72 - 6/3/72: AR Studio 3
6/6/72 - 6/10/72: AR Sutido 2
6/13/72 - 6/17/72: AR Studio 2
6/20/72 - 6/25/72: AR Studio 2
10/10,11,12,17, 25-27/72: AR Studios
1/18/73: AR Studio 2
1/19/73 - 1/21/73: AR Studio 3
1/24/73 - 1/27/73: AR Studio 3
1/29/73 - 1/31/73: AR Studio 3
2/1/73: AR Studio 3

So its possable. I stand corrected.

here is the part you are referring to from Daves interview;
"...There is quite a fair bit of footage in the studio during the making of Dark Side. Its a bit of a con it wasnt the real recording. Its me sitting on a stool re-doing an overdub to Eclipse, with the same guitar, but when the record was actually finished. And those bits of Roger pretending to do On the run where he hadn't done it in the first place!"

I was not arguing this, but nowhere does Dave say 1973.

The Original English premiere at the Edinborugh Festival was 1972, this did not include the additional footage.

The US premiere was in 1974, this did include the additional footage.

SO whatever. lets move on.
I'd like to hear your verson of a "remix" if you decide to do it

Right back atcha mate!

I used to love making mixes like this, but I have neither the time nor inclination anymore since discovering girls and getting a job.

Re: Dark Side "remix" download

They're mostly pretty uninteresting or strictly for my own purposes. I did a sequel to "Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd" made up of other compilation tracks called "Raving and Drooling." It had crossfades and remastering and everything. I'm sure you can find the tracklisting somewhere on this board. But here's the first one I could think of, off the top of my head, that's NOT almost a gigabyte in size:

The Dolby Digital 5.1 mix of Roger's In the Flesh DVD has quite a few differences from the CD's stereo mix. To listen to it on headphones, I downmixed the surround into plain stereo, and edited a few tracks from the concert down a bit, so they would fit on mix tapes for my friends.

Here's Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, with no sax solo and a few bars of pruning here and there. The original is almost 7 minutes long, this version is a radio-friendly 4:34 (you can play it on your show if you like). It only took me about an hour to do in all, and quite a few people I played it for couldn't even spot the missing 2:22!
