| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? all my friends think floyd's music is "weird" but i tell em them PINK FLOYD'S music is just unique. who whats to go buy music when there is hundreds of others just like it? that is what makes pink floyd fun to listen to because there such a wide variety of floyd music. some bands have a certain style and just stick to it song after song album after album. and it gets old and boring to listen but Pink Floyd will never get old i could listen to the same Pink Floyd song over and over again for the rest of my life and it would never get old. |

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? That's very true, that's also why I love just about all their albums, because each one is so vividly different from eachother (except for some - no names mentioned, i really wouldn't like to see another thread go into that debate)

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? I agree with Anonymous up there. Most do find Floyd "weird." Then again, I think pop music is repetitive and juvenile, yet that doesn't stop millions from listening to it. I feel that each of us have our own tastes and so what if someone doesn't like or appreciate Floyd, they are entitled to their opininon.

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? Yeah, but the problem is that It's not souly "their" Opinion, But it was the Brain wash the Media and the Evil MTV and record Companies had done to their mind, preventing them from hearing good music at all, depresing good new artists and the "less Commercial Bands",thus making the mass of listeners "dummies of the new pop age". These people don't like or listen to what we see as good music - classic Rock & Progressive Rock simply Because the media had thought them to disregard it or it simply tries as hard as it can to prevent them from hearing that music until their musical taste builds up, and tell them lies about what was music like in the 60's & the 70's... I'm not saying that if they get a chance, they'll all like it, Probably half of them will continue to listen to shallow Pop music, but the Other half might know Better, and Start Listening to some serious music, according to his free choice. There are so many sub-Genres to choose from, I'm sure most of that half will find what he's looking for, and that almost each of them will like at least 1 Pink Floyd album. Yet, Everyone is entitled to his own taste, Provided that he chose it, not someone else for him... Anyway, that makes a Total BRAIN DAMAGE for an entire generation... Luckily some of us has gotten through the Barricades, I transmit from a remote fender desert base, hope to get to the next Oasis before my water supply runs out... ![]()

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? I disagree archer. There are as many Metal-heads and punks out there as there are pop music listeners, in fact I would say that in reality pop music is in the minority, while the counter culture music and sub-genres COMBINED are in the majority, yet when each genre is taken out of the fold it is less significant. An example of this is the fact that 2 years ago Andy Griffith, yes that's right ANDY GRIFFITH, Matlock himself, broke into the top 100. That means that alot of people listened to him, just not as many as listened to NSYNC or BSB. And when you combine Andy Griffith with all the other top 100 albums, excluding the top ten, they greatly outnumber the remaing ten. And lets not forget, pop musics fan base is the 13 to 19 yr old population, thats the segment of people who have money, yet have no bills to pay, so they can afford every stupid album that comes out. And lest you forget, there is some actual saving grace to some pop. Check out my sig if you wanna know what I mean.

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? Dear Not Now John, When was the last time you saw a Punk Listens to Pink Floyd? and another thing, Most of those Metal heads you've mentioned, Don't even want to cover Led zeppelin,Deep purple,Not to mention Floyd, but Who? Offspring or something Like that... So I wasn't Just talking about bubble Gum Pop but on the mainstream music market in general, which was never prefect, but is now in Its one of worse conditions since the turn of the previous century... IN addition, I think the record companies had scored a goal in their Own net by encouraging the audience to return to a more single otriented Listening pattern, Rather than the album oriented aproach which dominated the market in the late 60's, 70's & 80's. IN those days, If you liked 2 songs or more, or if it were a concept album, you would simply buy the album. Today, You hear the 2 minute hit on the radio, See it on MTV, Download it from Napster and Burn it on yur CDR... even if you don't have napster, or a CDR drive, you hear the song enough on the radio & MTV and after 3 month it's all over. YOU CAN'T DO THAT WITH A GOOD ALBUM. Because if you really like the band, you will buy the album anyway, but if you can get the singles, you won't get the album, Unless you're a hardcore fan, and there are few like these on the mainstream Crowd. A GOOD ALBUM Stays with you for years.

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? archer, not everyone out there has to have the same music tastes as you. Plenty of people hate pop music, and by pop I mean anything mainstream whatever it may be. Your opinion of pop is slighted. BTW, the record industry wants you to buy albums, that's how they make money. That's why they play a single ad nuseum, so you get it into your head and run out and buy the album, as bad as it may be. (Like the Who never wrote a one song album. ) BTW, the Offspring are very competent musicians and guess what I like the whole album. As well as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Rage Against the Mahine, and even Outkast and Eminem. All very good mainstream artists. It is true that there will be hundreds of imitators out there, stealing the sound of these great performers, but ya know what, Floyd began as, and were signed because they were, Beatles imitators.

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? Punks??? Pink Floyd??? Bollocks!!! Johnny Rotten originally got the gig with the Pistols because he used to walk around with his "I hate Pink Floyd " t-shirt. There is NO punk music anymore. American punk in this generation is a myth. A sad piss weak appropriation of a brightly coloured counter cultural phenomenon that didn't make it into the 80's. And quite rightly for that matter. And for what it's worth- the Billboard chart is a total load of piss- and has not a god-damned thing to do with actual sales, only airplay. And of course Andy Griffith is going to receive airplay, as the grey currency still counts (although don't invest in it long term!), as does the novelty, joke currency. There is no punk. Only Andy Griffith.

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? lol Andy Griffith rules!! But seriously, my point is that what archer calls brainwashing, I call marketing, and hold no grudges against record executives who go out and find acts that will sell albums.

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? With that kind of thinking, there will be never another new album that reaches half the Originality of DSOTM & WYWH, just Loops of trance music and 15 year old girls dancing in their panties to the sound of drum machine...

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? theres plenty out there in today. Tool, Radiohead just to name a few of the best out there. -releasing original albums (esp Radiohead-Kid A), and i know Tool have been compared to 'the pink floyd of today' in many reviews that i have read... (although i fail to see such similarities except for the fact that they both write long songs and have decent lyrics) |

| Re: Pink Floyd's music......weird? That's Because THERE ARE People Who refuse to be sheep to the pop/rap/whatever Group, But choose to rebel agaist that fixed thinking pattern of commercialization, and break out with new ideas... Even Kurt Kubain, which was adupted by the MTV Institution, Deserves appreciation, for he has chaged the rock scene in a Giant manner, and did creative stuff like putting Piano strings in his Guitar, Creating a Unique sound to it. Plus, If you listen to Nirvana's 1st album from the 80's - "Bleach", You will find great tracks like "Love Buzz" & "about a Girl", which the latter is also known from the wonderful "Unplugged in new York". And there are also Bands Like Porcupine Tree & Spock's beard which released great Progressive rock albums in the 1990's, In the new underground. You see Guys, I DO Open my Eys and Ears, More than you think. I even go to clubs once in a while, even to those who doesn't play my exact cup of tea of rock, just to open up. I went twice to one of the Tel Aviv Underground Rock scene Clubs,I Went to a Jazz Club, I had a Subscription for the Israeli Opera For 4 Years. I also Listen to blues music Once in a while, and Listen and deeply aware to all kind of rock music. so please don't judge me as one who closes his eys and ears, before you know all the facts! Anyway, I Forgive you... Cheers...
