U2

DISCLAIMER:
I did a search, and it pulled up nothing (although I doubt that U2 haven't been discussed on here before).

Anyway.

I recently discovered U2 (like The Who, I used to despise them), and have found them to be quite the amazing band.

The Joshua Tree is of course an absolutely stunning record, but The Unforgettable Fire is my current fave. Purely because there are so many moments which sound absolutely NOTHING like U2 normally do. Oh, and there's that song called Pride, which is one of the best songs ever written.

Oh, and Zooropa is a fantastically underrated record. A bizarre mix of industrial beats and guitar pop/hard rock (and one of the songs features music that was included in the BE episode ANIMALS).

Sadly, apart from the above 3 records, I haven't got any other U2 stuff.

I was thinking of getting Achtung Baby, War and maybe How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (purely on the basis of the most exceptional 'Vertigo' single). Are these good choices? Do you like this band? Spill all!

i got into U2 in 1997 , when they released pop , liked thier stuff till 2000 , when beautiful day was released , after that U2 went down ( but the sales went up )

I've got "how to dismantle an Atomic Bomb" on my Christmas list.

Bono is a dopey bastard, but I do like their style.

Edge is an interesting guitarist, not of the usual template. I like his methods----"textures".

My favs are The Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, Rattle & Hum, and Achtung Baby.

I was big into U2 in college when War, Boy, The Joshua Tree and The Unforgetable Fire were constantly on my turntable (yes , I said turntable)..

They kind of dropped off my radar for the last 18 years or so.. but my daughter really likes them now... I imagine that Santa will drop "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" in her stocking.

Funny, I was the opposite. I didn't particularly care for them at first, then came to like them "as I matured".

Odd...I was pretty sure I was the one who posted the second reply...odd indeed...

Anyways, I would highly recommend getting yourself War. It's probably my favorite U2 album. Actung Baby is also very good. Their debut album, Boy, is also suprisingly good. HTDAAB should've came in the mail today...but I guess I can wait until tomorrow.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure there's already been a thread on U2, that got a few hundred replies, but I'm not really a stickler for DDTs, unless you're asking about how the Floyd were stoners, or the meaning to CN...

A couple weeks ago at my church youth group whom I play electric guitar for, we played Vertigo. It rocked..

I think the last time I played a U2 song was about 1989... I think it was "New Years Day"..

I'm with Fulghum - liked them in the early days but can't really be arsed with them anymore.

Get Achtung Baby, definitely, and NOW. For me, it's their highest moment.
As I remarked in previous threads I don't care much for their stuff post-AB and as for their latest album, Vertigo is a very good single and the album itself is good, probably better than the last three efforts but nevertheless, nothing special.

Can't say I know them all that well past the singles, but I love the singles, have been wanting to buy an album of theirs for aaaaaages. REALLY like Vertigo, what an awesome song, that iPod ad with them singing that is wicked.

anyway.. With our without you is still one of my fave songs of all time

Also, I think Bono is one of the most amazing humanitarian souls of the last 20 yrs, wish I could do something to support his DATA organisation but alas, am not American.
