Does anyone know who the background singers are on ITAOT? In some cases, it is clearly Mr. Waters and Mr. Gilmour...but there are other cases where someone else seems to be singing.

Especially in "The Thin Ice"...perhaps my ears are playing tricks, but I'd almost swear it was--no, I'd better not say that, or I could colour your perceptions.

John Joyce, Stan Farber, Jim Haas and Joe Chemay are listed as the backing singers (whoever they are!). Also, who knows, maybe some members of the surrogate band (Andy Bown or Snowy White) may have done backing vocals as well.

OK, thanks for the info!

You are very certain that is not Mr. Wright singing in harmony during "The Thin Ice"? There's something about it that really makes me wonder...

It probably is Rick Wright. What would make you doubt this? (He was still with the band on that tour, tho he was paid as a session musician.) Did you think otherwise?

It's only because of the situation he was in...I kind of wondered what he was and wasn't supposed to do...if he DID sing, I am VERY glad of it!

It's just that I'm trying to write a letter to him, and the LAST thing I want to do is to say anything about this period that could potentially hurt his feelings. So I want to be certain of what I am hearing before I compliment him on it.

Well, you're obviously quite the Rick Wright fan. That's great, he's awesome. I can say that I'm almost sure he did sing harmonies on ITAOT, tho I can't be sure, I'll have to give it a good listen. Anyway, I doubt that anything you say will upset him. I'm sure he'll be delighted to read a letter from one of his fans. Who do you think he is? That's Roger you're thinking of who "bins" his fan mail.

Actually, I got a very nice autographed photo from Mr. Waters! (Seriously, I did.)

It's just an instinct of mine to look out for others' feelings. I'm sure he's nowhere near so sensitive, though I think the two of us probably have that trait in common, to some extent. And I know that there were some deep wounds from that time...I just couldn't stand the thought of saying anything that might cause pain. So I want to make sure I have my facts straight before I write!

I just checked Mr. Dallagnol's ITAOT page, and I did see Mr. Wright's credits listed as "Keyboard, Vocals". Great! Now all I need to know is if you believe he is singing on "The Thin Ice", because to my ear that is the MOST obvious example, and I would like to mention that one.

Although this was obviously a difficult time for him, Rick has said that he actually enjoyed the PERFORMANCE of the Wall. Whether or not he was having too much fun backstage is another story entirely. From the sound of it, none of them were having too much fun.

What you two have said, makes me feel somewhat better about what I am doing. Thank you!

This did happen twenty years ago. He probably doesn't even remember.

I know how I am, and painful incidents become burned in my memory for all time. Mr. Wright seems similar to me in many respects...I bet he remembers every last moment of it.

I'm sure Mr. Wright wouldn't take offense to your mention of it even if it wasn't him. There are worse errors that a fan can make, and at least you're someone who acknowledges his contributions to Floyd. He probably doesn't even get that much recognition from Floyd fans since Mr. Waters and Mr. Gilmour get most of the attention for being the main songwriters. Don't worry so much about his feelings. After all, I assume your writing the letter to compliment him, and acknowledge his achievments. There can't be anything wrong with that.

I am writing this letter because I wish him to know that he is honoured and loved. (I think we are all mature enough to understand in what sense I meant the latter part of that.) Everybody else seems to get all of the attention. It seems quite apparent that Mr. Wright does not want the spotlight always shining on him...but if he's anything like me, even though he doesn't say much or tout his own accomplishments, it hurts when he feels they're going unnoticed. It's not the kind of pain that "our" type likes to share.

Perhaps I am being overly cautious, indeed. But I would much rather him say, "Please don't worry so much, it's all right" than for me to say something hurtful. I want this letter to show him that he really is valued, and that his work truly touches the heart. Perhaps I am trying to make up for the lack of acknowledgment he receives by making sure that this is one letter he will never forget, and would never wish to--I want it to mean a lot to him.

I can understand that perfectly. I think what you are doing is wonderful and I'm sure he'll be pleased.

I would have thought those lovely, regular royalty cheques he receives go a long way to acknowledging his value.
