It's Christmas.....bah.... humbug rant

Once again it's the time of year to have your pocket picked by the high street retailers, as they foist no amount of old tat on to the public, at vastly exorbitant prices. We are steadily brainwashed into thinking we have to buy our loved one something nice...'hey...it's Christmas....don't be a scrooge'. I myself have pushed the boat out this year, and bought Mrs E a 30v cordless drill! No expense spared there. It's the time of year to get together with your relatives, some of whom we can't stand. My mother in law for 2!! Seven days I will have to endure the old bat...grrrr. We will pull crackers with shite novelties and jokes, and watch the Sound of Music, It's a Wonderful Life and the Great Escape dished up by the TV companies who know they can get away with it. There will be endless reincarnations of the left over turkey...turkey sandwiches, turkey curry, turkey rissoles combined with a puree of leftover sprouts. There will be Noddy Holder and the f**king ear splitting song ' Merry Christmas Everybody' along with many other Christmassy songs regurgitated by the record companies. Who the f**k buys this shite...in fact who enjoys this shite, that's what I want to know? When I was a kid, I used to like Crimbo..but somehow over the years I've kinda lost the enjoyment. Can I get it back? Suggestions?

Anyhoo..I realise I'm a grumpy old git...but how about you? Do you still like Christmas? Am I the only grumpy ba**ard on the planet?

"Hey! If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?"

I'm a grumpy old git and I agree 100% with Axe Victim. Though I won't have to endure most of the horrors he described, thank Heaven, I'm just as fed up with the whole thing as well.

Yeah I used to like Christmas when I was a kid, but this year was the first ever I really wished it would be cancelled, postponed, deferred. Something.

Actually, the true reason for my continued gloom is I cannot currently properly enjoy (read: afford) Christmas as I would otherwise wish, what with having such a crap job at the moment, but brighter times may yet shine.

I like Christmas, although the prices go up for everything and you end up getting ripped off. I more just like seeing my cousins.

I can relate to Eddy & Byron's angst over Christmas. The older you get, the more you dread it and the faster it comes around again. (you run and you run...)

The commercialization of it is ridiculous. The message is: "If you REALLY love your family you'll spend every cent you've got and go into debt to your eyeballs."

Bah! Humbug!

But, in the end, on Christmas day, when you see the joy and excitement in the faces of your children (& grandchildren where applicable) it's all worth it.
