Re: Best tracks from The Final Cut: New remaster poll

Since it was such a weak album, I don't think Gilmour would have gone on tour even if the rest of the band did.

By "the rest," do you mean Nick and Roger?

I kinda agree with you there Lars...

But I think the Re-Master is a waste of time, money and effort.

NNJ is the weakest track on the album comparable to money on DSOTM.

Gunner's dream! I also really like not now john. I downloaded the album off limewire so it IS all one track (yes I know, I am lower than dirt for "stealing" music) I don't have a track list so I don't know what some of the songs are though. However, this is probably my favorite floyd album.

Re: Best tracks from The Final Cut: New remaster poll

I just voted for the title track - it is a truly great song, with great lyrics, arrangement and a terrific tearaway guitar solo by Dave at the end. A very underrated Floyd track, IMHO.

I am curious to know what newer Floyd fans thought when listening to this album at the same time. A bit of backup- I can remember breathlessly waiting for this album to come out, back in my junior year of high school, and being blown away by the lyrics, as a lot of people were. To put some perspective on it- I think the release of TFC found Roger Waters at the pinnacle of respect around the music world. The Wall was still on the charts when TFC came out, and the movie had just been in release less than a year earlier. I can remember reading reviews in Rolling Stone AND The New York Times no less- that raved about Roger's vision and lyrics. I can remember being privy to a debate about whether Roger or Bob Dylan was the more important rock lyricist. Looking back, I think this raised expectations too high for his solo career as it turned out,at least in the media.

And another thing I recall is finding out for the first time that Rick had "left" the band, this was a very carefully kept secret for almost 3 years after it initially happened.

Now, I still like the album very much, but to me at least it seems dated- especially songs like Two Suns which was written when cold war nuclear angst was at an all time high. So I'm wondering, does the album seem dated at all to new listeners, or is its message just as strong as when it was released?

For me it's:
1) Gunner's Dream (Amazing sax solo)
2) Not Now John
3) Title Track
4) Your Possible Past
5) The Fletcher Memorial Home

Re: Best tracks from The Final Cut: New remaster poll

I dont like how you set up this poll, because Get your filthy... is a bad song, and Fletcher is Amazing (why are they linked here?). Same as Tigers Broke Free with One of the Few, When the Tigers is amazing, One of the Few is okay.

Fletcher is my favourite off this album, and one of my all time favourite. Great solo.

Btw your missing Two Suns in the Sunset (a decent song).
