Re: Best tracks from The Final Cut: New remaster poll

I just saw the "Fletcher" video (for the first time!!) on VH1 classic. O my God what a waste of a video. With the exception of Not Now John, which sounds like it was written to be a single, NOTHING from this album could be properly isolated and promoted.

I'm sure all will agree (since this is all in retrospect). The Final Cut is "one composition". You cannot disect it, take it apart, or separate it. If you do, it sounds stupid.

The Final Cut is not only my favorite Floyd album, but one of the best albums ever, IMO. It is not representative of the Floyd sound, and it certainly does NOT rock by any means, but it is a very strong (emotionally) piece of music.

I have never seen this album as a bunch of Wall "leftovers", as Gilmour has stated. If you don't "get" this album, then you're not ready for it. Listen to it again. You're really missing out.

I don't mean to ramble, but seeing this video made me realize that somebody in some office somewhere, decided way back when that this album needed "hits". Wow, were they wrong...

Not Now John shows both the pschizo and the intellectual side of roger that makes him such a musical force. and he threw gilmour a bone by letting him do some singing on the track, a nice gesture

and we can all agree that he did the singing brilliantly. I personnally don't think the song would work as well with roger singing it all.

They shouldn't have put it on the album, in the first place.

yes, its quite strange, seeing that that those two songs are at complete opposite sides of the musical spectrum

It wasn't well-promoted abroad, or domestically for that matter.

There has been enough talk on this board though.

The description "wasted opportunity" springs immediately to mind.

You may not be the only one, but you have to be in a very small minority.

The Post War Dream 7 10.29%
Your Possible Pasts 9 13.24%
One Of The Few/When The Tigers Broke Free 7 10.29%
The Hero's Return 5 7.35%
The Gunner's Dream 16 23.53%
Paranoid Eyes 7 10.29%
Get Your Filthy Hands/The Fletcher Memorial Home 16 23.53%
Southampton Dock 5 7.35%
The Final Cut 20 29.41%
Not Now John 24 35.29%

i love them all, but not sure about (Not Now John) should have 35.29%...not the top one on my list. if Southhampton Dock was about 2 minutes longer that could take the top spot but it is too short now. i have said before, i think this is one of the top 3 Floyd recordings ever.

Not Now John is very good, it reminds me a lot of The Pros And Cons Of Hitch Hiking, Part 10 for some reason.
