John Frusciante Sound

I saw the Gilmour sound thread and thought about making on bout john fruscainte (some reason i think i will be flamed in the future because of startin this thread), anyway, im very interested in john's guitar playing. My questions are, what kinda chords does he use to get that funk sounds. Ive mastered the rythm and strumming but the chords dont really sound funky. Outside of that ive been studying by the way for quite a while. I see john has made very creative patterns. From the chord progressions, to everythin else. What kinda chords does he use that album, is there some kinda specific thing he is playing to make his chord progressions to sound like that. And does he use major scales in that album? And where the hell is the theory of californacation, its hard to belive he made all this out of his head without using some kinda theory invovled. And i know he knows theory very well.
