Get "Absent Lovers". A live disc recorded in 84. It has superior live versions from Beat, as well as the other two 80's albums.

The stuff from the 80's isn't very "prog-sounding" anyway. It's more electronic/new wave/experimental.

Beat is probably the weakest of the three 80's LP's.

What other Crim do you have/like?

One of the great prog-rock bands and the favourite band of my girlfriend. They (Robert Fripp) changed their sound drastically many times through their career, but it has always been great. Red (title track and Starless), Starless and Bible Black (Night Watch, Fracture), and Larks Tongues In Aspic (all) are my favourite albums. The 80s and 90s releases are great too, especially Discipline and Thrak.

I have it all. It's hard to pick a favorite. However...
Three Of A Perfect Pair is one of my favorites. I'm glad you like it as well. Now you need to get something more recent. The Power To Believe is a good place to begin. Then, either THRAK, or The ConstruKction Of Light.

You also need at least *one* of the following:

Lark's Tongues In Aspic
Starless And Bible Black
Red

You cannot go wrong with any of those six I've mentioned. Please re-post when you get a chance to listen to them, and tell me what you think. Or, go to www.projekction.net and make a few posts there. We're (usually) a friendly lot.

I prefer the harder Crimson like Lark's Tounge In Aspec over the 80's more riffy, arpeggiated stuff. Happy With What You have to be happy with is also great.

Crimson has gone through a few differing lineups over the years, and each one sounds a bit different, Robert Fripp being the contiguous thread.

I actually prefer the 80's Crimson comprised of Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Bill Bruford. (Maybe because I've had the good fortune of meeting Belew and Levin.)

I love the albums, "Three of a Pefect Pair" and "Discipline", both are excellent.

On Three.. give a listen to "Three of a Perfect Pair", "Dig Me" and "Sleepless".. all great tunes.

On Discipline...."Matte Kudasi" is just amazing and "Thela Hun Gingee" is a very powerful tune..love it.

I also reccomend digging into Adrian Belew's solo materials if you can find them.. He is an amazing guitar player.

Adrian's latest album, which came out a few weeks ago, has Danny Carey from Tool on drums and Les Claypool on bass. It's pretty cool. It's called Side One. Two more releases, Side Two and Side Three are to be released later this year.

His best solo stuff is Lone Rhino (which is difficult to find on CD-it came out in '81) and 1995's Op Zop Too Wah (IMO, his absolute best).

I liked when John Wetton as the frontman, he could play some nice bass. Good side projects as well (UK, Asia).

Agreed.. Although I really enjoy "Here" as well..

If you can find Lone Rhino on CD then you're a better man than I..

He did release a compilation disc of the major songs for his first three albums called "Desire of the Rhino King".. excelent stuff..(compiled from "Desire Caught by the Tail".. Lone Rhino"... and "Twang Bar King""

If you get "Lone Rhino" ..... Ya just gotta love "Big Electric Cat"..
