Echoes vs. Atom Heart Mother (epics)

Did a search and nothing came up.

Which of these two epic-length Floyd tracks is better?

I love both of them. They're about the same length, but Echoes has a bit more going on I think. I do love AHM though, its not far behind and the strange chanting in the middle is very cool. But Echoes is the stronger of the two, for me personally.

Your thoughts?

I disagree, I think that AHM has more going on, considering the fact that most of it is actually planned out. Echoes is really just a really long drawn out verison of a 5 minute song. Although it is a unique and good song, it isn't that compositionally interesting. AHM takes you on a 24 minute trip through crazy horns, squawking organs, funky guitars, grunting choirs, and mournful violins.

Echoes.

Hands down, actually. Atom is a good suite but it's still an imperfect experiment, with some weak moments. For me it's the first step of a work in progress to Echoes and subsequently to Shine On, which is the most accomplished of the three.
Echoes instead is almost the perfect track, well written and well recorded, wonderfully built up around the "ping" in the beginning.

Even though I love ATM (I heard it for the first time the other day), I would have to say that Echoes wins; only because it is slightly more coherent.

Echoes, obviously. THE Floyd track. But AHM is certainly one of my faves.

Count me in as an Echoes guy as well.

Although I won't deny that I absolutely LOVED AHM 9especially the choir bit and all that), Echoes was by far the better structured one.

And I agree with Mad Yannis that Echoes built upon AHM and ultimately lead to the wonderful, delightful, magical piece that was "Shine on"...

They meant the songs, not the respective CDs.

ATM?

Well, I think the pro-Echoes people already said enough; no need to repeat it. AHM is an excellent masterpeice, but Echoes is more solid.
