Cars

Ok Guys ( and Gals) lets talk cars * insert grunt here* . it doesn't need to be a member of Pink Floyd's car ( they're all in the garage gathering dust)..any old car. A car from your youth, or perhaps the car that you are dreaming of getting. Over the course of the years I've had many cars, Morris Minor, Chevette, Jaguar...most were 'old bangers' but they did the job. I love American cars...the names invoke days spent at the movies as a child where the heroe would jump in his Chevvy or Caddy. Perhaps the American posters are sitting there saying " Chevvy, that's a piece of crap". On our recent holiday (vacation) to Hawaii we hired a car, and got a Chevvy, not a classic...but it was the name... I was really quite pleased (sad I know) I have always dreamed of having an Aston martin DB5 after seeing the Bond movie Goldfinger. I always thought that so cool. Over to you lot.

Pics would be nice as well, if you want.

Re: Cars

Well I've never owned a car myself. Just got my license a few months ago. But I do occassionally drive my mother's Saturn around. A basic description: stationwagon Saturn, copper (penny-like) paint job, and goes to 60 in roughly 10 minutes. A real beast, if you ask me.

Re: Cars

At the moment I drive my mum's car, a Ford Fiesta. There are two cars I would kill to own, one is a Morris Minor, cos I think they're the cutest thing ever, and the other, I don't know how many of you saw Cruel Intentions, but the 1956 Jaguar Roadster that appears in that film wouldn't go astray.

cheers

Re: Cars

Eddy, ol chum, between the two of us, we can keep this thread alive.

My first car was a '64 Pontiac GTO. Maroon hardtop, 389 cid, tri-power, 4-speed, posi. Just like the one sung about by Ronnie & the Daytonas.

It was fast as hell, and I almost killed myself in it a couple of times, but damn! It was fun.

Re: Cars

Cars I have owned...

1) 1977 Toyota Cellica liftback. 5sp manual.. I was 17...
2) 1982 Toyota Cellica, another 5 sp manual. These were the Cellicas that were the Lotus knockoffs.. loved it.
3) 1986 Jeep Cherokee. My 1st 4x4.
4) 1990 Ford Thunderbird. Black, loaded.. a speeding ticket machinie.
5) 1998 Dodge Durango. Chili Pepper Red. Loved this car.
6) 2002 Subaru Outback Sport, still have it, drive it everyday.
7) 2003 Dodge Durango. Liked the 1st one so much, we bought another. This one is Sliver. It's the family car now.

Mixed in ther as well. we had a 1985 Pontiac Fiero. little two seat sporter.. quick as hell.. it was my wife's car.

I inherited my grandfathers 1971 Ford F250 4x4 pickup when he passed away in 1993. I fixed it up a bit, 2" lift, Cepeck tires, new paint.. it was fun.

I traded that in on a 1989 Ford F250 pickup and did the same thing to that one as well.

That's about it I guess.

1990 Ford Thunderbird. Black

1998 Dodge Durango. Chili Pepper Red.

Re: Cars

Imagine my disappointment when I found we weren't going to discuss the classic Gary Numan song, nor the 80's pop band!

I dislike automobiles.

Re: Cars

My next car after the GTO was the Opel I mentioned in another thread. I copy and paste it here for the rekord. Pun intended.

Ah, Opel.

I'm awash in nostalgia just thinking of my old 1959 Opel Rekord I had in Germany. Two tone white/blue with the 4-banger 1500cc pushrod engine, pumping out about 40 throbbing horsepower. On the autobahn, with a tailwind, and maybe slightly downhill, I could coax 120km/hr out of her.

After I got back to the US, I bought a used Red '65 Chevy Corvair Corsa coupe with the 180 HP turbocharged engine. This car almost asphyxiated me with carbon monoxide poisoning driving thru Berthoud pass (11,000 ft +) in winter with windows up and heater on. The only thing Ralph Nader was ever right about.

I dumped the Corvair and bought a Silver '66 Chevy Nova SS hardtop with the 350 horse 327 & 4-speed. Fast! After about 6 months, it was "totaled" by a drunk who ass-ended me at a stoplight. I kept the engine and transmission for a "future project."

Stay tuned, kiddies, for more exciting strattales of stratmobiles!
