New HHGTTG film

Does anyone have an opinion on the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film due out April 29th? I am going to see it, but I am afraid the revamp will ruin it.

I wouldn't want to have to blow up this planet, and one or two others I passed on the way here.

Re: New HHGTTG film

I'm a huge fan of the books and the BBC radio productions... I'm looking forward to the film, and from what I have seen clipwise, the FX look amazing..

I'm just afraid, that much like "Dune", there is no possible way they can do it justice in 2 hours.

Re: New HHGTTG film

I've got the albums (vinyl, of course), video, books, etc. So, being a fan since it originally came out, I want to see the film. Like you, I don't think two hours can do it justice - I'm sure it will be heavily rewritten.

Of course, even Douglas Adams didn't have a problem with that - the radio show is different from the book is different from the TV series, and I have some comments he made about that here somewhere. It's just that there are some great scenes from the series that will be dropped, great scenes from the book that could be added, and so on.

AND. The teaser makes it look like Arthur might get lucky with Trillian - and that just will NOT do.

Re: New HHGTTG film

I think it's one of those things where the hero has to get the girl. It'd get panned like there's no tomorrow if Arthur didn't get the girl.
I'm so scared of it being only 2 hrs long. All the great scenes.. like one of my favourites is when Arthur gets captured by that thing that he keeps killing.. and it's on its last body and wants to know why Arthur hates it.. genius

cheers

That's just WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!

Zaphod gets Trillian, NOT Arthur. Arthur, apart from being rescued before Earth's destruction, is basically a loser.

Losers should never get the girl.

I'd be less offended if Ford Prefect was the one who gets lucky. After all, she's already shagging his several-times-removed cousin, Zaphod.

But like NNJ, I will reserve judgement until viewing, but like Rob, I do not hold out much hope of anything great.

Re: New HHGTTG film

I'm going to reserve my judgement, but I do know that the script is essentially the same script that was rewritten by Douglas Adams himself before he died. When I heard that, I was less worried about the film, but like I say, I'm still reserving my judgement.

We don't know if he does or not - they only implied it.

But the thought is bothersome. It just ain't right.

Re: New HHGTTG film

Douglas deliberately changed some plot elements to make it more like a conventional movie script, and they didn't change it too much after he died. So if Arthur does bag Trillian, I'll be surprised but not unhappy.

Part of the problem was they got David Lynch to do it, which is sort of like hiring Picasso to paint your house.
