Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Hi,

I just read on the News page that a compilation of hits will be released soon. I have mixed feelings about it: at the same time that it's good to hear that in a way the band is still active, I have a feeling this compilation will be something really alike A Collection of Great Dance Songs. I mean, besides the new hits like "Take it Back" from The Division Bell, all of their other hits are still the same: Money, Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Another Brick in the Wall part 2 and so on. It seems they're just trying to make us spend more money to have all of the releases on our collection. Or is it a way of making the new generation know who Pink Floyd is so when they release a new album they will already have a good impression of them?? According to those news, it won't be a collection of B-sides, like Works was, so we shouldn't expect anything rare, just the hits and that's all...

On the same topic, do you have any guesses on which songs are going to be on this release?

CrazyDiamond

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Good Point.

I agree, i'd like to see some of their rare songs in a compilation - or maybe segments of "Shine On You.."

WEll, hopefully it's a sign that we'll be getting some new stuff soon.

Anyway - i'm Kinda excited to at least see something ya know!!

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

I would think that most of the songs on 'A Great Collection of Dance Songs' wouldn't be on it, except maybe for 'Another Brick in the Wall Pt.2'. As for the tracks on it, here's my "High Hopes" for the compilation:

1. One of these Days
2. High Hopes
3. Comfortably Numb
4. Interstellar Overdrive (shortened)
5. Pigs (Three Different Ones)
6. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun
7. Wish You Were Here

And some other stuff as well. I know that there is no chance for some of that like Interstellar Overdrive of Pigs (Three Different Ones). This is just my hopes, so let me dream.

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Go ahead and dream man...

As you can see I am "CHARADE" so i'd like to see Pigs (Three Different Ones) aswell.

I'd like to see "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" in segments that we can jump to.

For a different "feeling".

They should have "Run Like Hell" on it

and some of the stuff from The Final Cut (i like this album - i'll post a topic on it soon) - like "Hero's Return" - very nice and "Two Suns In the Sunset" - a beautiful piece!

That's My 2 cents!!

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

It would be cool to see "See Emily Play" of "Arnold Layne" on it as well.

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

Yes, Bike is awesome. The lyrics are actually very cool. They don't make much sense as a whole, but a lot of the best lyrics in my opinion don't make much sense ie. "I Am the Walrus".

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

How about CAREFUL WITH THAT AXE, EUGENE from the UMMAGUMMA live album version.

It's one of my best Floyd's songs.

Just a suggestion!!

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

I thinkThat "Carefull With That Axe Eugene" from
Pompeii is even better, but I doubt they'll put either one of them on the new collection.

They could however put Astronomy Domine Live From Ummagumma which is great, but they probably won't.

How about a live version of Fat old sun? they did some excellent versions in the old days...

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

"Careful with that axe, Eugene" happens to be one of my top 10 floydian songs. When Rog screams, I get shivers all over my spine. I specially like the Ummagumma version of it. There's also a b**tleg (called M-502) with, I believe, the best version of that song.

Cheers,
Paulo

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

This seems to have become a wish list for the "best of" album. here's mine.

1. Shine on Y.C.D. (all parts start to finish)
2. Pigs (Three diff. ones)
3. Atom Heart Mother (25min 1970 BBC version)
4. Pigs on the wing (parts I&II together version)
5. One of these days
7. Brain Damage
8. Eclipse
9. Green is the color/Careful with that Axe Eugene (again BBC combined version)
10. Echoes
-runner ups: Sheep (only because its on 'Dance Songs'), If, Dogs, two suns in the sunset, Cymbaline, free four.
I could go on until I listed all the versions of all the songs so I'll stop

Re: Pink Floyd "Best Of"

I think they should release a huge 20 disc album and have every Pink Floyd song on it and call it 'The Best Of', because that's about how easy it is to narrow it down.
