"David Gilmour in Concert" set to air on VH1 Classic

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 28, 2002

"DAVID GILMOUR IN CONCERT"
SET TO AIR ON VH1 CLASSIC

Two-Hour Special Featuring Acclaimed Solo Artist and Pink Floyd
Member Premieres Tuesday, November 5 at 8:00pm ET/PT

VH1 Classic To Air Exclusive Gilmour Interview and Pink Floyd Music Videos During the Evening

VH1 Classic will premiere "David Gilmour in Concert" on Tuesday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. This spectacular two-hour concert was filmed live at his critically acclaimed Meltdown Festival concert at London's Royal Festival Hall in June 2001 and includes guest appearances from Rick Wright, Robert Wyatt and Sir Bob Geldof.

Throughout the two-hour presentation, VH1 Classic will also air portions of an exclusive one-on-one interview the network conducted with Gilmour. VH1 Classic will also feature Pink Floyd music videos in a "Headline Act" block to follow the concert. The entire show will repeat on November 9th at 9:00pm and again during the week of December 23rd.

The concert features David Gilmour, his semi-acoustic band rich in talent, and the exquisite gospel choir led by Sam Brown. The set is tantalizing in its sheer diversity - from Pink Floyd classics such as Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and High Hopes, to Syd Barrett's Terrapin and Dominoes as well as a performance of Je Crois Entendre Encore from Bizet's opera The Pearl Fishers which one critic described as an "unlikely triumph..." and a new song Smile.

A DVD of the entire concert will be released on Capitol Records on Tuesday, November 5th.

PRESS QUOTES

"David Gilmour seems to have invented a whole new genre. Best described as chamber rock, it's a form of music that uses predominantly acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies to create a sound that is warm, richly textured and genuinely different... ensemble music of the highest order."
David Cheal, The Daily Telegraph

"Just like Pink Floyd at their best, with all the intricacy and maturity and none of the pomposity"
Tim de Lisle, Mail On Sunday

"Reinvented rock god shines on as 21st Century folk hero"
John Bungey, The Times

"Seconds later, he's proving that the liquid bends of Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1 can translate from electric to acoustic guitar quite beautifully. The speech bubble above our heads reads: "We are not worthy."" James McNair, Mojo

"more challenging than anything Pink Floyd have done in decades."
Alexis Petridis, The Guardian

"an evening of music that effortlessly veers from bombast to modesty and back again."
Grant Moon, Classic Rock

Launched in May 2000, VH1 Classic is a 24-hour network that presents music videos, concerts and music specials featuring classic rock, soul and pop artists from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Featured artists include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Stevie Wonder, The Police and many more.

Thumbs down David Gilmour

David Gilmour ruined the band. He is nothing without Roger. How he tried to steal the name Pink Floyd is disgusting. None of his solo work has any creativity. Granted, he is a great singer and an awesome guitar player, but without Roger he is nothing. I hate how he ruined all of his mediocre songs in Pulse, that was so disappointing. It was definately nothing like Roger's solo material that is actually good!

Sorry but what has all this to do with Dave's DVD? I guess you're just a flamer, eh mate? Not to mention that all you've said is just your (questionable) opinion, of course.

It is in stores now. Why bother with half the concert and commercial interruptions. Go get it.

The DVD

Hmm, I bought the DVD but I must say I was a bit disapointed. It must have been great hearing it live, but on the dvd it just sounds very "weak". I'm sure a lot of you will like it, especialy those who like acoustic music, I instead will rather stick to the excelent RW In the flesh tour DVD.

My opinion: 3 out of 5

I think it's excellent, and I'm not a particularly big fan of accoustic music. If it's mega-big laser shows, flying pigs and jumbo glitter balls you're after stay away, otherwise I thoroughly recommend it.

I agree, and I would only add that don't look for a million sounds you hear on standard PF concerts. If you do, you'll be dissapointed. Maybe that was my mistake. I also first heard Shine on you... part 2 (i mean the second SOYCD song) which is quite good and has a lot of sounds for a band so small and specific, and had expected this style trougout the concert. It turns out this song is only one of the most "similar" to the standard PF concerts. Most of the songs are not. (In fact it's an acoustic concert so they can't be.)

I don't doubt Roger Waters is creative and not a good bassists hes excellent, but to denounce gilmour is just not right.

Those are very harsh words.

Re: "David Gilmour in Concert" set to air on VH1 Classic

In my opinion, Roger was the one who really started it in Dark Side, but then they both started getting greedy and the band fell apart because of them both! and to all of those who say that one was nothing without the other, Pink Floyd was originally run completely by Syd Barrett, and he went insane! So what do you expect?
