When you're listening to the title track of "Atom Heart Mother", at about the eighteenth minute, the vague keyboard notes sound very much like those at the first minute or two of "Echoes" from "Meddle."
At the beginning of "Fat Old Sun" from AHM, you can hear bells in the distance--they sound exactly like those at the beginning of "High Hopes" from "The Division Bell."
Maybe the Floyd did this on purpose, I don't know. Any thoughts?

No thoughts, just trying to get to 100 posts.

I know I'm sad, you don't have to tell me.

Madcap Diamond, if you want to get to 100 posts, go to the Just Babbling forum and start a thread "Trying to get to 100 posts." Then just post a bunch of jabbering.

Or, do what I did. Post REAL stuff and when people have a fit because you think differently (i.e. "A Naive Challenge to Publius" and "A Joke."), you'll have to defend your opinion or else they automatically jump to the conclusion you have no response.

There's actually a large library of stock sound effects, used primarily within the entertainment media that crop up allll over the place. I'll give you a good example: "Doctor Blair, Doctor Blair. Doctor J. Hamilton, Doctor J. Hamilton," which appears not only on the Queensryche album, "Operation Mindcrime" but also in the film "Happiness", during the scene where boy is being questioned as to what may have happened a couple of evenings previously at his friend's house (I won't give this away, as you should see this film) and, also, more iconically, in an episode of kiddiewinks favourite "Sesame Street".

This post was brought to you by the letters "F,I,X,L,E,V and Y"....

I believe the Floyd holds on to their own sound effects. Various wind sound effects have been used on several albums. Gilmour said something about unearthing old sound effects in an interview. Alan Parsons made mention to having many extra sound files available that were never used.

So, yeah, i'd bet that's the same bells.

The really strange effects (to me) are the "Small Furry Species" from UmmaGumma showing up in Embryo and some of the Echoes guitar effects showing up on The Wall.

They also plagiarised the high pitched yelps from the early live versions of "Embryo" and used them on the LP version of "Echoes".

Cheers,

Mark
