Roger on Tsunami Aid

from www.brain-damage.co.uk:

Quote:
We reported yesterday that former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters is to participate in a star-studded tsunami benefit show on US network NBC Universal, on Saturday 15th January at 8pm EST, called "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope". We now have the good news that this has been confirmed to us by Roger's management office.

Without wishing to spoil any surprises, we can confirm that Roger will be performing a classic song from his back catalogue, with another big name performer. They are taping this prior to Saturday, so that it can be inserted into the show at a suitable juncture.
Let's just hope the song isn't "The Tide Is Turning" ...I think that would be in ironically poor taste. (Tide, tsunami... get it?!)

Thanks for letting us know. I'll have to check it out.

Any guesses to what the song will be? I'm placing my money on "Wish You Were Here" or "Goodbye Blue Sky".

Went to NBC website... didn't see Roger mentioned... but I guess they don't think he's a top attraction. That SO irritates me but I suppose it's due to an American bias. Oh of course Usher and Nelly are mentioned. Surely their contributions to the world of music eclipse Roger's!

Perhaps Brain Damage got their information wrong.

Perhaps Roger wanted his appearance to be a surprise, or his name kept quiet to appear tasteful.

Or perhaps, and this is most likely, NBC has decided to promote the more popular names because they would draw a bigger audience. Not that NBC is making commentary on who is more important to pop culture, but who could bring a bigger audience.
After all, Roger Waters isn't exactly a household name, even to many casual listeners of Pink Floyd.

It's a bit sad that this kind of stuff (random appearences playing to death the same old songs) are the most "exciting" news we get these days. Yawn.

A great subject for Roger to write about would be former presidents Bush & Clinton working together in the tsunami aid; two politicians who were fighting each other because of...well, politics...in 1992 now working together. It could be one of Roger's few aspects on the Bright Side of the Moon. But knowing Roger it would probably wind up stating h(and this is unfortunately true) how sad it is that it takes a disaster of such proportions to bring people together when they have no reason to hate each other in the first place.
But, Roger would be the perfect choice to write a song about that.
