Hm. I am a US-centric here, and used to 576 or so lines of resolution with about 15KHz of horizontal bandwidth - lotsa colors, but big dots HDTV will change it - but I stand by my PC monitor, with 2048 lines. There is, of course, the processing trade-off.

That beats Moore's Law by quite some degree...
No guesses from me. The storage wars are far from over, and the volatility of the consumer market will drive it, anyway - as you know, that's got a lot more to do with advertising budgets than engineering. Another good reason to stay with PC's - at least they're standards-based.

I've done embedded design using Motorola and PPC processors for the last ten years... I can only assume that Intel is going to go somewhere they want to follow. The current PPC family is generally way better than what Intel has to offer, performance-wise.

A HDD allows for saving files, quicker loads, and the ability to download patches/maps/etc online. I can say that having one is very useful. A year ago I got a HDD for my PS2, because I did some beta testing for both the HDD and Final Fantasy XI. This was quite nice to have, since my 8 MB memory card was already nearing its limit; I was having to delete stuff and whatnot just so I could play my current game. I hear all the time from fellow PS2 users about how they need another memory card, or need to splurge on a HDD, etc etc.

Yeah. I don't see why not.

Most certainly. At present, most games are developed to fit on the medium they are to be distributed on, hence they are limited in most cases to 4.7 on a single layer DVD, or occassionally they get 8.5GB on a dual layer.

Both Lars and I got Battlefield 1942 last week. Incredible game. I've barely been able to pull myself away from it.

Bollocks. They can do a 2 or 3 disc set whenever they want. Games size is limited by developement time and consequent costs (which are already gigantic as they are) and this is a fact.

Re: Videogames!

But new technology is always developing, making bigger, better graphics and what have you faster and more common place. And no, they don't make multidisc games very often, because those are quite hard to market and rather expensive to make.

Yep it's an amazing game. It's the first online game that didn't get boring after playing it 4 times for me. I highly enjoy it even though I have made like 3 kills since I got it.

Re: Videogames!

Haha, I think my record so far is 20 kills in one game. But I still suck. I know there are other people on here with Battlefield (it's a pretty popular game)...we need a APFFN match.

You cannot be serious. They're not expensive at all, DVDs are quite cheap today and you can market a 2 disc set at the same price of a single one and in the same box so they're quite easy to market.

Re: Videogames!

I have yet to see a multidisc game for PS2. Explain that, please.

Re: Videogames!

I am totally missing the point here, Why would you even want a 2 disc game?
