I've never been a major fan, but have always enjoyed Jimi. His stuff is great, and he's just incredible with an axe. Personally, I like "Electric Ladyland" the best. I also have the "Blues" album Fulghum mentioned.

Jimi is definetly a pioneer of rock as we know it. He belongs right up there with the other greats of music: All of the Beatles except Ringo, Jaco Pastorius, Kurt Cobain, etc. He was so phenomenal at the guitar and what he did to the guitar. I only have his Live at Woodstock album which is not only great but absolutely hilarious if you listen to all the side dialogue between him and the 600 or so people that were still there.

Why did he have to die so young.....

oh nothing! I mean I don't really know what actually happened after they all split but I never heard anyone go "hey, Ringo is playing down at the venue!" Ringo was great too, honest.

I love Ringo, he lost the plot a bit in the late 70's though.

Never been really a big fan of Hendrix, I think he's pretty overrated.
