Hendrix!

Jimi Hendrix was a groundbreaking, innovative, genre-defining and genre-defying. He was the original rock God - a scary, enigmatic bloke. He was never very rich in his lifetime (and his bank balance the month before the release of Electric Ladyland stood at something ridiculous like Ł3, due to his arsehole of a manager), but his music spoke for itself.

My favourite Jimi album at the moment is Band Of Gypsys(sic). The first half of the album features two incredibly sexy jams - Who Knows? and Machine Gun. Machine Gun is probably the best song Jimi put his name to - it verges on a 12 minute guitar solo with incredibly powerful drumming. The second half features four shorter, funky tracks.

Close behind BOG is Electric Ladyland. On that record, Hendrix takes his guitar frigging, production and songwriting to a new level. Gorgeous.

Oh, and Jimi's most famous album, Are You Experienced? is pretty dull. It's a bit too like a greatest hits album.

So yeah, opinions?

Jimi was masterful. He influenced a generation of guiatrist behind him (myself included).

Not all Hendrix fans are aware of his love for or ability to play the blues. His posthumous release "Jimi Hendrix: Blues" is an absoutely amazing album. All of which was never released while he was alive (except for Red House).

I love Jimi. He's my favorite guitarist, probably. I used to always have Hendrix avatars and quotes back in the day...

I love Axis: Bold As Love.

Hendrix is amazing, i like the stuff sounding like little wing and castles made of sand. Those types of songs he made just have this awsome warm laid back sound. Ya hendrix was different.

Hendrix was a genius, totally amazing, but, my shame, I only have one collection of his. Great stuff anyway.

I have a good hendrix collection & recommend:

' hendrix:blues ' - already mentioned, ' hear my train ' elec version is amazing

' kiss the sky ' - good remasters of classics like ' voodoo child ' + grt live version of ' I don't live today/ss banner '

' hendrix in the west ' - an earlier release & still a real good live collection

;all official releases r good but I like the later albums like ' elec l-land ' & ' band of gypsys '

He is revered for not being able to play the national anthem. I don't get him, or the praise he recieves.

Nothing beats "Electric Ladyland"

For some reason, I think "Hey Joe" is a ****ing awesome song...

I like some of his songs, but i think he's unbelievebly overrated and i was never interested enough to get an album.
