Big Muff/ Double Muff

Can anyone tell me what the deal is with these two EHX stomp boxes?

Ive heard that the Double Muff is basicly 2 big muffs put together, so why is it less expensive?

I dont know whether to buy a big muff on its own, or buy the double muff for cheaper. Surely there must be some catch when buying the cheaper double muff. Is something lost in the sound quality, or certain sounds not as easy to find on it. its really confusing me, any help would be appreciated, just explain what the deal with these two pedals are.

Re: Big Muff/ Double Muff

I almst bought one of those today. I tried both, and didn't really like either of them. The distortion tone was much too harsh for me. For Gilmour's solos, a really good stompbox is the Boss Blues Driver! You can go from a soft - 'comfortably numb'-ish tone, all the way up to a harsh sounding tone like the middle solo from Dogs! It's really versatile. You can even turn the gain down and just use it as a clean booster too! Great Pedal. I almost spent my money on it today, but I just can't afford it right now. It was on sale at Tom Lee music for 111$

Your starting to piss me off. The BD-2 IS NOT useable for fucking comfortably numb. The Big Muff is THE gilmour pedal. Do some bloody reading at

Re: Big Muff/ Double Muff

You don't have to have the exact equipment to get that sound
it's all about the EQ settings
I am able to get a Gilmour-ish tone out of a blues driver!

Re: Big Muff/ Double Muff

Ive got a bloody Blues Driver myself, there is noway your getting the same sound. Its too very different pedals. The Big muff has an extreme sustain with a overdriven tone packed in by sweetness, its has an extremly special sound. Its nowhere near the blues driver which is a light distortion and boost pedal.
Mainly produced as a BLUES driver, that means, a bit of crisp on your sound. And tbh, it sounds like shit cranked.

Re: Big Muff/ Double Muff

To be perfectly honest i really dont believe you can judge what is awsome sounding. Anyway, one thing is clear, the blues driver does not sound like a big muff. And the big muff is something which is in almost every solo by mr gilmour.

Re: Big Muff/ Double Muff

Well i know that you believe a blues driver does the work of a big muff, which is like stating that the holocaust never accurd.. Other than that, youve been posting in really old threads like a madman. But of course, i dont know you at all, thats quite correct. But it doesnt kill the fact that its absolute bullocks what your stating.

Re: Big Muff/ Double Muff

First of all, I can't believe you guys are fighting over the tone of distortion pedals...

I have a Big Muff (hee hee) Pi Russian edition/version/whatever. It sounds pretty good if you have a new battery. Unfortunately it has no plug for a power supply so you run through lots of batteries. Also, the plugs are on opposite sides (input on left, output on right) so that can add some confusion. Most people say it sounds better than the American version but I'm not sure since I don't have an American one!

I don't have a Blues driver but I've used them before and they don't have enough distortion for me. I use a Tubescreamer for that type of sound because it sounds a lot better.

I don't think what's his name was saying that the Blues Driver sounds the same as a Big Muff, rather that he can achieve a tone similar to Gilmours with a Blues Driver.

So what if you can't get the same tone? Play with your preferred pedals and leave each other alone.

Now quit arguing, holy hell...
