I think he's talking about them weaving bed covers - isn't that what Rick and Nick do these days?

R'n'B covers provided the bulk of the Floyd's stage sets before they started writing their own songs (around 1966). Try looking for "King Bee," a Slim Harpo song recorded by The Tea Set (Rick, Roger, Nick, Syd and Bob Klose). And there are a few surviving recordings of Dave's old cover band, the Jokers Wild.

Also, Dave would often play fragments of various popular tunes while the Floyd were tuning up onstage. Nothing really significant though.

Isn't "Lucy Leave" a cover as well?

Don't think so... sounds like a Barrett creation. If not, then who wrote it?

I understood that the only surviving recording (vinyl) of The Jokers Wild was owned by Dave's old Jokers Wild drummer, Clive Welham. If there are copies available, I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Dave does a cover of Elvis's "Don't" on his D G in Concert DVD.

the Jokers' Wild stuff and King Bee and Lucy Leave are available on various fan-made ROIOs, like Have You Got It Yet? and Tree Full of Secrets. And I'm pretty sure Lucy Leave is an original Syd creation, and a mighty fine one at that!

Yes, I have the first disc of Treeful of Secrets...which has "Lucy Leave" and "King Bee", among others.
