Tired of Floyd?

Do you ever get burned out on floyd? I mean, they're a great band, but sometimes on here when I see people with floyd quotes for screen names, or signatures, it just makes me say "oh give me a break". Anyone else feel this way?

Feel free to think it again.

Yeah, I get burned out all the time. I rarely ever listen to DSotM and I never listen to WYWH anymore. Right now, I'm playing OBC a lot because I just bought a copy of it and haven't heard it in a long, long time.

I've noticed The Wall burns out quicker than any of the others, though.

Re: Tired of Floyd?

The only PF records I listen to anymore are the odd ones, like Piper, OBC, More, and AHM. Except for this past weekend, I got a thing for The Wall, and listened to it a couple times. It'll be a year before that happens again.

Re: Tired of Floyd?

I rarely get sick of PF altogether, I just switch from era to era. Sometimes I really like Saucerful and Piper, other times OBC and Meddle, sometimes WYWH and DSOTM, rarely any of the rest. But I still don't have More or Ummagumma

Re: Tired of Floyd?

For some reason I usually go through phases where I listen to The Wall quite often and extensively. While stuff like DSotM and Animals usually stays in style with me all the time, The Wall goes in and out, but when it comes in, I never listen to anything else.

Yeah...see, that's what's cool about the Floyd: the different eras with their different sounds and styles. Just switch around time to time, keep it fresh. I was in an AHM phase a while ago, but now I'm listening to WYWH frequently.

In responce to your original question: no, never!

That's true. That's why the flame perks up when I get a new album.

Re: Tired of Floyd?

It's somewhat difficult to appreciate the finer qualities of an album that you put on your CD player half an hour ago, only to find that you zoned out due to overfamiliarity and it's now 2/3rds of the way through.

Re: Tired of Floyd?

Happens to me... but not often though... For me its like a cycle... i listen to a lot of PF... then i get a little tired with it... i listen to something else... in about say another 3 weeks of other listening... I get back to Floyd... put on my cd man, sit on my fav couch, sip coffee with a cigarette in my hand... i exclaim 'This is definately the best Band everrr'

So thats how it usually goes for me.

What I've done is ive catagorised all the songs into different parts and made four cd of my own floyd compilation. Starts with Starts with really good solo songs, soft songs (many from Meddle etc), huge songs and musicals... so I listen to anyone of them... whatever matches my current mood.

Well... thats that.

Cheers!!!

p.s - all burns are made for personal purposes and are taken from the originals... which proves I do have originals and do pay royalty to the gods.

Re: Tired of Floyd?

I used to listen to Floyd so much that now I'm just taking a break from it, and I'm checking out more obscure sounds, like Gong (oh yeah!) but I expect I'll return to my roots soon.

Re: Tired of Floyd?

I've not listened to any Floyd at all for getting on for two years now, I got the Pompeii dvd for Christmas and I've not even been arsed to watch that yet either! I've played their music to death over the years and now I find I don't really have much need to listen to it anymore. Overfamiliarity is a terrible thing my friends.
On the other hand I've been listening to the Bunnymen for almost as long and I never get tired of them, mind you they are still recording and touring, that probably has a lot to do with it. With Floyd you know that what's out there is all there is, there will be no more.
Apart from the odd solo outing every ten years or so of course.
